None of those. You can always tell a mass produced beer, they have plastic screw on pump clips. Avoid.

This is more like it

Mostly I was looking for a shot with hand pumps that would give the impression of standing in front of the bar at a pub. We are real ale challenged for the most part in the states, and I can think of only one local place that usually has a cask (as in one) on. In general, good beer is much easier to find now than it was years ago, and I'm often pleasantly surprised.

The first four are actually not too bad, and Oakham is mass produced too.
But don't go by the badge!
Look at the pump handle, if it is electric and the bar girl has no biceps then move along.

In England it is best to look for a Freehouse pub, which means that it is not tied to one brewery, so there should wide and wild selection on offer plus a very engaged landlord.
One exception, having grown up in London, I always make a bee-line for the next Fullers pub. Fullers ESB.

What happened to O Scopes?

Let me know how the USB thing works for you. Jameco made a cheap 1KHz sine wave injector kit that you could adjust the output for 0-2V P-P & freq +/-5% on. 1KHz, and 400KHz were the usual audio test freqs. Some people use 3KHz, or 5KHz. JIS is 3KHz, but we do not need to use JIS, unless we start cloning Japanese stereos. I would advise a function gen with a fine adjust knob & maybe a counter. I have a B&K with a counter, but adjusting it perfectly is a pain. I need a better function gen. I have a nice big RF gen you key in the freq, and an FM modulator. It makes a 1KHz audio modulation on one ch & 400 on the other to check separation. I also picked up a Beckman (old analog) gen that goes down to .1Hz. It is good for moving the voice coil in speakers to listen for coil rub. Using your fingers to flex to spider by pushing on the cone is begging to screw up the speaker. Function Gens are pretty cheap, unless you need something wild.
