How much Heater current overhead is enough?
I have a Fender branded transformer that is rated at 3.75 amps on the heater tap. I want to use 5 12ax7s 1 12at7 amd 2 6L6 tubes. The preamp tubes need .3 and the outputs need .9 for a total of 3.6 amps. This falls below the 20% tolerence typically built in for reliability. Does anyone know how Fender gets it's specs - is the 20% built in to their rating? Any opinions welcome on whether you would do this on a new build....

YOu might add a separate filament trannie just in case. Having worked on a few of those with "Issues" I can tell you that it's not exactly a "Stout" trannie.

Thanks - thats what I suspected just by looking at it. I am going to try it with 5 preamp tubes and 2 outputs (3.30 total) and plan on feeling for too much warmth as it's running.
