Best sound ever for me was complicated but worked, Dlator on amp ONLY.., used a behringer Ultra G DI out of second speaker jack to feed fx into small combo amp for wet/dry set-up. simply marvelous, once got really adventurous n ran full stero like that, stupid good..n stupid complicated..lol!
Gi:
Is the loss of dynamics in the send or return part of the D'lator?
An experiment you might want to try is to run just the send portion of the D'lator in the loop. See/hear/feel how that affects things compared with nothing in the loop. Then patch in just the return portion of the D'lator.
That might help you to isolate whether the issue is in the send, return, or the complete D'lator system.
Just a thought...

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.......
bfmb - isn't the buffering on this Rocktron unit just at it's send and return? Got it used and it sounds uncolored to me on the through....
Anyway - I am hoping your 25k linear solution will eliminate these extra boxes for me. I will know soon.

I think the only way around your dynamics issue would be some kind of parallel loop..
In theory this one here looks promising (Engl)..It's a pretty easy mod and by running your effects 100% wet and blending that in (in Phase) with a heavier dry mix might do the trick for you.. Then it just depends on how much the return amp effects dynamics/harmonics and tone so there might be some tweaking involved with the LNFB and bright caps in the return amp, however you may like it better than straight serial..

The ENGL version requires an exotic dual reverse linear pot, tried it with an ordinary dual linear pot with less success. Hence, the 25k version is easier to implement.
I don't really like bright caps per say either, at least not big ones.
I did however install the bright on clean only relay trick and like that a lot.
Adds some chime to the clean channel.
I believe I have a 120pf there
I find I don't really like bright caps on the OD side at all.
The only time I have used the bright caps on the D'lator is when the amp volume is way down.
I changed the Drive cap to 500pf and have the Recovery at 270pf.
However, I do have a bright cap on the Master volume on the amp, but I leave that around 1:00 -2:00 and control the overall volume with the D'lator recovery output pot.
The bright cap on my Master volume is 30pf I believe, so not much, especially with the Master pot up past noon.
I do have the HF Taper control on the OD side. I have it adjusted so the OD fizz is slightly reduced.
I do not gig with this amp (not yet anyway) so everything could change when used in a live situation.
Seems like a lot of band aids where as the RF #102 (which I like a lot) sounds fine live.
That is simple and elegant, I will give it a try. Still, the lack of dynamics I mentioned is experienced even when nothing in plugged into the D-lator loop -- i.e., it is intrinsic to the amp + D-lator combination. Still, like the concept of a very simple wet-dry addition to the D-lator.
Cheers,
Gil

Gotcha. I agree, It has it's advantages and disadvantages.. Seems like on a few select amps the D-lator helps to smooth a harsh amp and actually in some cases enhances the bloom effect,(especially at lower volumes) works as a better master vol.. But it does change the overall character and feel.. A different load on the PI and all cabling alone inserted before the PI effects dynamics ..Going parallel (or a lower Pf rated cable)might help some but I have no real absolute cure..
If anyone can find a better way it's YOU!!
