Effects processor in the D'ltor?
I've been experimenting with multi effects units in the D'Lator loop on my new amp. So far I've tried a PODxt (amp and speaker sim off) and MidiverbIII. The POD seems to color the sould quite a bit, the Alesis is more complex to program and somewhat noisy.
What have people tried in their loops? D'Lator or passive? What are the results?
Thx.

Re: Effects processor in the D'ltor?
I've been searching for a low priced digital reverb I could just build in a loop and not mess with the tank and transformer and just finished a bassman conversion that has the active loop only. I tried an Alesis Picoverb($60 + ship) that worked pretty well and a really cheap Behringer DR100 ($24.99 + ship). The DR100 sounds better than the Alesis for the Tank reverb replacement sound and it sounds better than the 1 tube reverb IMHO. For the money it's cheaper than actually building in a good tank reverb(at least $50 if you include tubes). It seems to have plenty of gain so it may work in a passive loop.

A Yamaha MagicStomp has been working well for me in the loop. It seems to hold up well even without using a tube buffer. May nice reverbs and echos to choose from. Tried an Alesis NanoVerb and the gain structure just wasn't right. If you can find a Lexicon MPX100 rack unit - they work very well and have GREAT reverbs. The gain structure is really well set up for guitar use.

I was also suprised how good a $24.99 digital reverb actually worked. Comparing the DR100 to my Fender reverb unit, for the size and cost, I now prefer it for local or small gigs. For the money it's cheaper than actually building in a good tank reverb(at least $50 if you include tubes). It seems to have plenty of gain so it may work in a passive loop.
Re: Effects processor in the D'ltor?
Thx guys. I'm actually more interested in other modulated effects and models. I have a POD and a V-AMP (sorry) and I'd like to use effects like rotary speaker, chorus, acoustic simulators etc. Any experience?

If you can find a MagicStomp - that will get you there. Small footprint with 3 foot buttons/3 effects at the ready. Nice Vibe emulation, rotary, compressor, fuzz, etc.. They were blowing them out online for around $50 around 6 months ago - so, should be reasonable on eBay or used. http://www.magicstomp.com/eng_flash/int ... index.html

I have a tendency to stick to what works well for me, and for the last 14 years or so I have been using a Rocktron Intellifex. It worked well through my older amps FX loops, and since 1999 iy has been working great through a D-lator clone. I's quiet, has a good sounding mixer, and to me it has good reverb and dealy -- I use the chorus very sparingly. These boxes can be had for little money used, so it may be something you want to look into.Bob-I wrote:I've been experimenting with multi effects units in the D'Lator loop on my new amp. Intellifex-me too! Built like a tank. I use the Behringer foot controller and access the effects/parameters in real time..Works well in passive loops without D-lator. It has a 1 meg input impedance...

Re: Effects processor in the D'ltor?
My findings don't agree with yours regarding passive loops. You have to turn down the amp's output quite a bit to not kill the input of the I/F, but then the unit does not have enough gain to bring the amp back up to gigging levels. For home or lower volume playing, sure, I can see it working; otherwise not really.dobbhill wrote:Intellifex-me too! Built like a tank. My sentiments exactly! I use an Alesis Nanoverb that works quite well but I had to attenuate the input to it to avoid overloading the unit, then add a gain stage on the main in (guess it's an 'effects return' now) to get back to a level suitable for the power section. That said, it works really well.ayan wrote: My findings don't agree with yours regarding passive loops. I use a TC G Major. I love it. And I want to be like Dogears. Great chorus, reverb, and delays. I usually use a voodoo labs micro drive for my chorus and vibe sounds though. That is not in the loop but it works for me. TJ

I have a Boss GT-3 that works well with the D-lator. The stock wah is lame, but I was able after much deep programming to get a decent wah sound (better than my Crybaby GCB-95 which is not saying much). I also programmed a cool Leslie effect that I use once in a while. Mainly I just use Delay and Verb. I like one of the "Room" verbs and the plate verb. the delay is OK but could be better. The Compressor/Limiter effect works well and I used to use it a lot with my other amps, but don't even need it with the D clone since they are so squishy already. I got a great acoustic sim out of it - sounds like an Alvarez with the built in preamp/EQ. i actually have not tried this effect with the clone yet. I had most of these FX programmed before i built the amp.Bob-I wrote:Thx guys. I'm actually more interested in other modulated effects and models. Re: Effects processor in the D'ltor?
I have the cheapest TC unit ($129) it is great, only 2 effects at once, but it's totally transparent, and it has a version of the 2290 dynamic delay-Very Cool!!

Very cool input guys.
I just found a Quadraverb on ebay that I grabbed. We'll see how that one works out. I love the Quadraverb in my PA so I'm hopeful.

Funk,
do you use a TC Electronics G-Sharp or M350? If so, that is a great price for those units! Where did you obtain?
Thanks
