It seems that for the styles he's suggesting, it would have enough gain. Your 6v6 "lite" ODS had enough for me to play Eruption on. Would it fit the music? *shrug* I'd be more apt to recommend a JTM-45 and some pedals...good round cleans...good with pedals for the stoner rock and jam band stuff.

The JTM45 is an obvious and good suggestion, takes pedal like a dream, it sounds big, it has good cleans, Nik makes it, it's a plug and play amp etc. (I had a Marshall reissue), with the right pedals it can cover everything.

But,

why not a Dumble?

my HRM has a STELLAR CLEAN, HUGE and round and chimey TONS of headroom, the OD side w/f/sble PAB and MID boost is UNREAL modded marshall to an almost boogie lead sound w/mid and PAB engaged, stick a ts-9 on the clean channel and get even more variety, it has MY vote man!! lol!!

No reason, I just like the way KT66s sound in the early JTMs but then again it's a little bit looser and warmer of an amp...not as tight, gainy, and or mid-rangey as the later plexies with the EL34s. But the later ones' "cleans" aren't as nice, IMO...and they also don't sound that spectacular at low volumes...the JTMs do. I always go 'round in circles with these amps because one has qualities that the other doesn't so it's a matter of finding (or building) one that's good middle ground.

You could probably use a Dumble clone and be fine for the style of music you do. They're interesting amps and really the sound varies from player to player. For example, if Bob plays his ODS, it sounds like what you'd expect, that sort of steely Dan or Robben Ford smooth lead sound. If I play through it, it sounds like a straight up rock and roll amp. I haven't spent too much time with Dumble cleans so that's my only qualm about not recommending one wholeheartedly. Maybe someone on the board has an example or if you know someone close to you that has one, can let you try it out at one of your practices.

I like the D'Lite a LOT. It'll do any style of music and take pedals. My first choice of amps, but not as responsive as the Trainwreck.
Trainwrecks are NOT difficult to play. I built my first one about 4 years ago, and it turned me into a different player. It's like your head and hands are wired directly into the amp, because of the EXTREME touch sensitivity.
But I also found it difficult to turn the guitar down to 1-2 quickly, to get a clean/softer sound. So. I bought a cheap clean boost and set it for my clean volume/drive level. I'd recommend the Bad Monkey as one that works well, is virtually silent and very cheap.
Try this combo and you'll thank me later!!
