Back to Az if Gary (glasswerks) is available he is always helpful and a great guy to deal with. I just haven't dealt much with Shad or Henry, nothing bad to say about either.

Besides having a sweet spot for that Runnin' on Empty Sound, I think Mr. Dave's endorsement goes a long way with me.

Thanks for the info -- I'm pretty excited about the idea of being around all these "greats". For the most part my builds go well, but this one is just driving me nuts.

I'd probably not be of much help from a technical standpoint. I am in Phoenix though (about a block from the border of West Scottsdale), if you ever need anything that doesn't require electronic wizardry I'd be happy to help. I'm good plugging things in and a decent rhythm guitarist haha..

Yeah the biggest problem with the snow is that it will be 55 on Wednesday.... getting motivated to shovel will be a problem.

Jborder, damn we were neighbors and I did not even know it...... Too late now I guess.

That's good to know, Gary. Your original website was the first place I ever saw someone try to build a D'style amp and I was completely fascinated! ;) I'd love to meet some time.

Give me a call. I can be reached at 898-1058. Usually around after 6pm weekdays and all day Saturday and Sundays.

Ah, that old site. Those were the good old days :). Still have that amp (as well as the two I built for my boys). Haven't fired it up in years.

That was a time before the Amp Garage (Omar invited me to help start the Dumble section) and virtually no information existed except a few blurps on Schematic Heaven and the stuff that Steve had "hidden" at Blue Guitar. And of course a few conversations with the master, Gil Ayan, who I now classify as a good friend.

The only target tone I had was Robben Ford recordings I listened to in my old XJS.

So if you need some help with the hum let me know.

Well, I was totally fascinated by the old site -- that someone actually took the time to do this! Unlocking the mysteries of the universe ;)

Thanks for the offer to help, Gary. I will take you up on it.

Hey guys - in Phoenix (Chandler), is there a good place to find baltic birch plywood? I just need a small piece of 1/2" for a baffle board (~24 x ~14) -- Woodcraft and one other store seems to have larger pieces. Home Depot has some ply, but I don't think it's baltic birch.

Sounds like Phoenix needs a day of everyone getting together and bringing amps for a Tonefest :). I'm in Scottsdale and would be up for a get together.

That would be cool! I'd be to embarrassed to bring any of my builds (well maybe my old 5e3 scratch build with the green bedliner coat cabinet haha, sounds great for the Neal Young sort of thing though). I've seen some of the builds from Henry (I've actually played on Dave Forsters from the Rocket 88's Redplate at a Jam, I've been friends with Bill Tarsha and Dave for a lot of years). I haven't seen some of the other builders stuff though, a tonefest would be pretty cool, there are some awfully good builders down here I know that.

Don

The only places I have found it locally is Woodcraft and Woodworkers source on Elliot (down by Guitar Center). They only sell 5x5 sheets (they may have small pieces in the front of the store).

Ain't cheap, last time I priced it was about 65 a sheet.

The Birch at Home depot is birch on the outside and god knows what on the inside, lots of filler. You might want to check a few of the hobby shops. They sometimes carry hobby ply which has tons of layers and really nice.

Thanks, Gary. I checked both of those places out - yah, 65/sheet is a lot (and I'd have to try hauling it in my old Porsche 911!). Woodcraft said they'd order me a small piece, but I wound up just getting a 24 x 30 piece from an on-lines source.

Now for the challenge of cutting it ;) I don't have a workbench set up in the garage yet! I'm finding garages here are a lot smaller than in the mid-west... I had made the decision to stop building the cabinets and focus on the chassis' and buy pre-built cab's, but this last guy is sort of a one-off.
