That is interesting comparing the 6PS and 418P.
Both round.
6PS 10%
418P 5%, 10%, 20%
418P three choices of lead style
The 418P series is available through the Sprague/Vishay Distribution Network on special order.
I think perhaps the 418P is a ruggedized component for more severe conditions.

Well, I've got both 418P and 6PS available and was just wondering if one is preferred over the other. Maybe at this point it's like splitting hairs.

Yes, I think for our purposes they can be used interchangeably.
Like I said some of the wording on the spec sheets leads me to believe the 418P is more rugged but they are the same physical size as the 6PS.

Just to chime in. I built a Brownface Pro replica for a customer awhile ago. I used the Sozo blue caps and I thought they sounded quite smooth to my ear. They certainly brighten up the innards of an amp
They are a little larger than the old fender blues but not hugely different.

Re: Capacitors - why Orange drop and not Fender blue
I was digging through some of SBE data files and it seems that in 1999 SBE acquired some axial capacitor manufacturing equipment, process
documentation, materials, engineering specifications, etc.
The 470P is a axial polyester film and foil cap.
Value range from .001 - 2uF, 100-1000v
Apparently SBE discontinued the 192P and now substitute the 470P for it.
Doesn't seem to be anybody that carries them.

Someone said they like the old mustard caps...
I tried the Sprague 6PS caps in my ODS and had to take them out... too hard sounding for my ears. Then I tried the yellow Sozo mustard cap replicas and really like them. The sound is smooth & warm with plenty of clarity...
I think the total circuit the of the amp including the power supply makes a difference in what signal caps will ultamately sound the best.
I'm using the big Solen poly caps in the power supply which may be why a darker sounding cap works better in my amp...

Re: Capacitors - why Orange drop and not Fender blue
I was going through my 6PS caps and I came across some Spragues that looked older and kind of a toastier orange color. They're labeled A1-081. They're .047 600 DC. They look just like an older 6PS. Anyone know of this number?

I recently tried a few 600v Mustard Caps in the PI of a Bluesmaster I built for a friend after reading some of the original posts in this thread and was shocked at how much better it made the amp sound.tictac wrote:Someone said they like the old mustard caps...TT
IMHO I don't think they sound good anywhere else in the amp and Mustard caps don't work for any other voicing other than a Bluesmaster.
