Dumble power supply board material
Hey guys, does anybody know what that green material is that Dumble sometimes used for his power supply boards? Says MAFR on it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yeah, that right there.
Thanks, M Fowler.

Hehehehe, I thought you were asking what the circuit board was made from.
That there is the blue RTV silicone goop.

I am. I know the preamp board is Formica, I read up on it on this site. I'm wondering what the green power supply board material is.Structo wrote:Hehehehe, I thought you were asking what the circuit board was made from.

I realize it's probably not significant from a sonic standpoint, but I'm researching stuff for a build I'm planing. It's going to be a copy of a Dumble I used to have, and I'd like to make it an exact clone.
This is going to be just for myself, not for commercial purposes, so I don't care if it's obsolete or hard to get stuff. I'm patient.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Re: Dumble power supply board material
Well it is of course a copper clad laminate but finding that same MAFR board may prove futile.
If you can find some copper clad Garolite FR4 board that may look similar.
I think the FR part means fire rated.
You do know that the precision power supply board is a printed circuit board right?

Yes. I looked at it carefully when I still had the amp. It didn't look exactly "printed", more like home made, but it did have traces on the underside.Structo wrote:

This mask is for the precision power supply board.

Re: Dumble power supply board material
Thanks, I appreciate that. On the Dumble I had those traces were not exposed copper btw, they were completely coated in solder. I wonder if Dumble did that to make the traces thicker?
Re: Dumble power supply board material
Yes the old printed circuit board designs were often drawn by hand.
I think the tinning of the traces was to increase capacity and also protect the copper from corrosion.
Kind of a poor man's wave soldering.

Don't you love the way he made the chassis out of Extruded channel ?

What was the serial # of the amp you owned? Do you have pictures or a schematic drawn out with component values you would be willing to share?
We love that kinda stuff around here!
