Bluesmaster with reverb

Post by Jacob5165 »

Hey guys,

I am going to be building a Bluesmaster soon using chassis and transformers that I already have from a Fender PA 100 head with reverb. I was wondering if there was a way to incorporate the reverb into the Bluesmaster? Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you,

- Jacob

Here's two version's:

A single tube Verb (Brown Note Blue Monkey D'lite 88 version)..

And a two tube Verb (scheme by Henry Heisland from Redplate, my layout). It may need some tweaking but it does work.

Hi Boldaslove6789,

Thanks for sharing the reverb layouts. Do you happen to have a similar layout for a D'Lite with the built in D-lator style loop?

On the Redplate reverb. I am thinking the 12AT7 pins 3 & 8 cathode resistor is 820 ohm instead of 820k.

With respect, 10thtx

On the Redplate reverb:

On pin 8 cathode on the 12ax7: The junction (on the layout) of the 1.5k and the 47k resistors should be green as they go to ground.

Also, the resistor feeding B+ into the transformer primary is shown on the schematic to be 10k, the layout is 100k. Is 100k a corrected value?

I would like to know where is B+ 2a coming from, is it an extra or an already existing node?

All the best.

My layout is just a reference from Henry's Schematic. I never built it, only made a layout to make things easier if I ever used it. The scheme is the correct reference so go off of that.

Maybe Henry will chime in....

Schematic is correct as drawn - the B+2A node is derived from the screen node with a 5k6 dropping resistor and a 40uf filter cap. The dropping resistor may need to be tweaked on your amp so shoot for 300 to 340volts on the 12AT7 plates. The green and black transformer wires can be oriented with black to ground (phase flip) with no discernible difference. A .01 cap across the 10k intensifies the drive slightly but is not needed.

Greg, thanks for the layout, it's certainly helpful, but some people around here just build things and follow diagrams without ever knowing what is going on electronically, I know, because I, for many years, was one of those. That's the reason I (probably 10thtx also) tried to point out those discrepancies.

@ Henry

What transformer pairs with that reverb tank?

Thank you for taking your time (I know you're a busy person) to answer my question and for the additional -and very helpful- information. Nice simple design, congrats!

Again, thank you both very, very much.

All the best.

Thank you, Boldaslove, for the schematics. I didn't really expect much interest from this. But while we are on topic (sort of) what about tremolo? Is there a Bluesmaster type amp that has built in tremolo? I dig the idea of having reverb and tremolo built in, kind of like Ry Cooder's Borderline Special I suppose.

Thank you,

- Jacob

P.S. Boldaslove, the Quinn amp that you recently posted videos for sounds great! I was just watching them the other night. It looks cool too.

.
Here's one, don't remember where I found it but it works amazing - very musical and organic.

Standard Fender Reverb transformer, the cheapie knockoffs work fine too.

That's the circuit Fender is using on the reissue amps with bias-modulating trem's.
