Pro Reverb Conversion - Caution ... Torres content
So, I have a 69 pro reverb that has been converted to vintage fizz generator by Dan Torres ( i traded a mim tele for it in this condition). It is truly an awful sounding amp now. I have been using the effects return to run it as a power amp for my line 6 XT, but now I am ready to convert it over to a Dumble style amp.

Check out the quality craftsmanship:

Yes, that's the relay board held in place with a loosely wrapped wire tie.

I am looking for suggestions as to which D-stlye amp to convert it to.
Any suggestions to retain the Reverb? Tremolo?

Here's what I'm using in the interim:

My 5E3 clone and an original 58 5E3 :)
Thanks,
Todd

Mark - thanks for the link. What was the final outcome of your amp?

Nice to see Dan and the boys maintaining the fine standards we've come to expect. He could teach a course in how NOT to build an amp.

It's still a 69 Pro reverb, albeit with a ton of crappy mods. Worst case is return it to blackface specs and play the sh!t out of it. I just want to have some fun with it first, and learn a bit about dumble's circuits firsthand.
I would say that's worth $250 any day.
Care to recommend a circuit for this amp?

I was going to gut the amp but so far I haven't yet!
Tried to just go through and straighten things up and change out old screen resistors and other questionable components. The main thing I found that with the gain mod and effects loop mod it was out of phase so I made a reversed speaker cord instead of rewiring the output jacks. But I think eventually I will strip it back to a BF Super Reverb.
You could Dumblelize yours

I always rationalize based on the cost of the iron and transformers. If you had to buy all three, it would be quite a bit more. Add in sockets, filter caps, tag boards etc, it adds up !

Well... he does state in his website the following: "You'll find lots of NEW things for your guitar and amp that you can't get anywhere else in the world."

Tops on my list of:
"how the f*ck does a h*ck b*tcher like this stay in business so long ?"
The amp I posted was a motor boating mess, trem didn't work, sounded like crap, not one but TWO output transformers (single ended and PP), half power, 4 x EL-84's...just a mess. Converted to an ODS mod, customer happy.
A classic example of what killed guys like Holland (and others): Selling so many features, built so poorly, and not knowing when to tell a customer NO. Not knowing the practical limits of what you should and should not build nor offer..went back three times too. I liked the 8 to 9 pin adaptor plate and I liked the transformer adaptor plate idea too...not much else to like...

What was really cruel was Henry said mine should be used as a boat anchor
Re: Pro Reverb Conversion - Caution ... Torres content
Not exactly - what I said was "Make sure the transformers are big enough to keep the boat from drifting"M Fowler wrote:What was really cruel was Henry said mine should be used as a boat anchor
