Unknown ODS Pics

Post by UltraHookedOnPhonix »

Founds these pics of an unknown 50W, blackface ODS. Can't make out the serial but probably in the 80's-90's.

Is this from the Music ground EBAY ad? They had these up instead of the Modded Bandmaster right?

Classic... in it's original form (Tandy coax) with the exception of filter caps possibly

No caps on the bass pot though... and the presence pot possibly added after the fact?

Keep in mind that Music Ground was shut down for selling counterfeit goods (among other things). Are you certain that this amp is the real deal?

I'm aware of Music Ground's shenanigans but judging from these pics, there is no doubt in my mind that it was made by Dumble. This is his "build print". I agree with Tony that the only thing not original could be some of the PS filter caps. Installed by Dumble or not, who knows?

Looks like Gregor Hilden's Dumble.

Definitely not Gregor's amp!

That said there are some things in this amp spooky close to that one though!!

It may be the real thing but again with the MGR people involved who knows...

I'd think an amp would be far easier to fake then a guitar....and apparently the have done that numerous times....

Don;t think I have ever seen a bumble with threaded stand-offs before.

Usually he went the "cheaper" route...

It's real, I have confirmation. That's all I can say for the moment.

I played an amp that was prob pretty close in SN to this one but it lacked PAB. It certainly did not need it though.... it sounded glorious in OD mode. And the cleans were great too. It had a 70's style relay sticking out of the chassis. 50W black chassis.

Based on my observations of that amp and some others, I'm inclined to say that this one discussed here is prob closer to sn90 -100 but certainly after sn80's.

Interesting that it has what appears to be carbon film plate resistors on V1.

I wish the pictures were higher resolution.

FWIW...If you wanted to replace the filter caps of such a Dumble with caps closer to the originals you would be best suited to use the F&T's
F+T use the similar foil material with the same surface structure e. g. as the older style yellow Atom Sprague (the blue ATOM Spragues are completely different).

Thank you Tony, don't know how you figured that out but that is another Ahaah! contribution!

Does that apply to the F&T cans as well as the axials?
