Just for the record: I don't own one and I'm in no way associated with VVT Amps. I've got to say that the video of Jack Pearson playing the X Model sounds excellent.
In my opinion, many of the mod'd D'Lite amps sound pretty good but a bit hard edged and not as smooth in OD.
Anyone heard any clips of a mod'd D'Lite that can approach that sound?

Not a lower wattage amp like the vvt clip that was posted but this amp sounds awsome. I don't know what mods were done but I do know its a 100w Skyliner non-HRM

The "uploader comments" on this clip may give some clues(?)
Looks like he got it already built from Moss (not a kit) so it's probably still "stock" whatever that may be for an "ODF".......
edit: built-in series d'lator

Re: D'Lite and VVT X Model
IMO the use of an external loop(Dumble-ator) device goes a very long way in smoothing the OD tones of these amps. Works perfectly well on a D'Lite, too. If you like the tones of the VVT - get one. Great price point on that amp. If you want to build, I'd suggest a 6L6 D'Lite plus d-lator.....
Amp Clips
Yes the VVT X amp sounds really nice but right now $1K is a bit over the top for me so I'll have to go for a build. In fact a number of the VVT amp clips sound great. They've made an art of tweeking that sound.
Thanks for the input people....I'd like to hear more.....

Re: D'Lite and VVT X Model
If you want a true Dumble tone I suggest you build the 100w version.
I know the trend is smaller less powerful amps these days but I never really could get the "Dumble tone" to my satisfaction from my D'lite 44 (2x6L6).
Believe me I tried for three years.
It is however a very nice medium gain type amp and sounds good by it's own right but it never sounded that Dumbly to my ears.
My recent build of a 100w ODS amp convinced me that there really is something about these amps that give them a unique tone.
The $1K price is a pretty good ballpark amount to build one not counting the cabinet.
I'm not even sure if you can still get the D'lite kits anymore. I know they were having some trouble delivering them.
If you have never done a "from scratch build" then perhaps a kit is a good starter place but if you have experience building tube amps you should be good to go with the information provided here.
Good luck!

This is the 100 watt scratch I built this year. I actually like the 50 watt better.
