overdrive special/supreme

Post by guitargodad »

Hey all, I have been checking out your guys posts for a little while now, and i think what you are all doing is really amazing and cool. now for the question. I have seen a lot of pictures of what you guys are building, i have looked at the dumble gut shots on rob's page, and i have seen the insides of a fuchs overdrive supreme. The Fuchs is one of my favorite sounding amps, and all the sound clips i have heard off this page sound great as well. but the fuchs looks so different inside, not only is it on a printed circut but the components look a lot different. so i suppose i want to know how he gets all that dumble-esque tone from a design that to my novice eyes looks so different. or am i just completely insane (which is a real possibility).

A guitar amp is made up of a schematic design, the kind of parts used, the layout used, the speakers, guitar, etc. Changes in one could possibly make up for differences in another. If you know the sound you're going for, you could make changes in layout, component brand, or component value to get the sound of the original.

And sometimes a little magic dust helps :D

I'd bet that the reason Fuchs uses PCB is that it's more consistant. With PTP wired amps moving a single wire can change the sound, when PCB it's always the same.
