Relay question

Post by guitardude57 »

The relays I got from the local supplier are Aromat DS2E-S-DC12V
when I asked for the NTE R40-11D2-12V. Everything is wired correctly, and the diode (IN4004) pulls down upon switching from front panel switch or footswitch being grounded.....but the relay is not switching.

specs on Aromat:

3.00 A
Coil Resistance
720 Ω
Contact Current Rating
600 mA
Insulation Resistance
100 MΩ
Power Consumption
200 mW
Power Rating
60.0 W
Rise Time
3.00 ms
Size-Height
9.80 mm
Size-Length
20.0 mm
Size-Width
9.91 mm
Voltage Rating (DC)
220 V
Coil Voltage
12.0 V (max)
Contact Resistance
50.0 mΩ (max)
Operating Temperature
-40.0 °C (min)
Lead-Free Status
Lead Free
Mounting Type
PCB
Packaging
Bulk
RoHS
Compliant
Termination Style
Solder Pin

Specs for NTE:

Carry Current
2.00 A
Contact Current Rating
2.00 A
Current Rating
2.00 A
Power Consumption
15.0 mW
Power Rating
150 mW
Size-Height

Any ideas.......pin out is same.

Thanks, Mike

According to the specs you posted, the relay is pulling 200 mw at the coil. Is your transformer large enough to handle the load? By comparison, the NTE pulls 15 mw.

Using RS 450mA 6-0-6 tranny.....only one relay for OD into clean when energized

Ken
He should be ok 200mW is 16.6mA of draw @12V.

Checked wiring again.....

Then rewired relay conventional Dumble with Clean NC

No change.....get clean and no relay switch to OD

Going to put it back to ceria style with OD on NC setting......

This is way F*$&ing irritating...........

Got it......

If any of you decide to try these Panasonic-Aromat relays
they work.

But, they are Polarized/magnetic coils, and must be powered on pin 1 which is across from pin 16......the one I had powered, per the numerous examples of wiring a OD/clean relay.

So the ground, power and the diode were backwards for this relay vs the omron and nte.

Thanks to those that offered any notions.

I walked away from the frustration and read the tech sheet.........surprise!

Swapped around the stuff......works beautifully.

Interesting about the coil.
I wonder what they did to make it polarized?

Does it have an internal diode?

No internal diode, has a polarized magnetic coil....so power comes in on pin 1 and grounds on pin 16, only.

This is opposite of the various diagrams for wiring up the relay power.
The NTE and omron types can power on either pin.

So I will stock up on these..........

I put a 16 pin DIP socket in the relay board for easy exchange of relays, but would have to rewire for other types.
