midboost and pab...
Do you guys think it's a good option to have the midboost (with a relay) and pab boost switched together?. I found the tone a little thin and low gain for a boost option, (clean gain on 5-6), and also when combined with od, it turns a little middy. I'm trying that and it changes for the better. what do you think?. also .002 it's a little high for the od comb. i'd shoot for .001....
Re: midboost and pab...
hmm...always thought the mid-boost should have been independently foot-switchable.
Re: midboost and pab...
I thought about that myself..and I have room for one more relay board, and I have 5 leads in my foot switch cable, so I might do that if it turns out that the mid boost is useful enough for that.
I'm using a on-off-on swithc for mid boost right now.. and I have thre caps in paralell, so I get three different values.

Tommy, try magnecraft REED relays, i use a 5v one for switching the MID boost, they are SMALL , cheap and reliable! I usem all the time! I getem from Mouser.com here in stated, google them and see if they have an international sales! , jimTdale wrote:I thought about that myself..and I have room for one more relay board, and I have 5 leads in my foot switch cable, so I might do that if it turns out that the mid boost is useful enough for that.

i found that at low gain settings the pab is a bit useless for me. that's why i thought of this mod. maybe try this and let you know the final result.
Re: midboost and pab...
Why a reed relay? I don't know much about relays, but the 5V relays I got from mouser seems to work fine...although I haven't tried them in a finished amp yet... but they do switch when I tried a 5V battery on the coils....

Re: midboost and pab...
Mine is wired so the OD also engages the PAB but the PAB can also work independently. See the diagram for a better explanation. You could hide a little switch on the box to disconnect the two switches for Hybrid operation.

Re: midboost and pab...
I should have included that this foot-switching arrangement can be used for any of the relay activated circuits.
Re: midboost and pab...
The boost circuit I use does what you mentioned, boost with mid boost combined.
I only use the boost and / or mid boost with OD engaged so it only makes sense to have them both on at the same time. For me it's the best tone of all the combinations of the two switches you can have. I like it!
