Thank you, Its good to hear some decent clips. The amps do sound very similar, honestly I couldn't tell the difference until I seen the pedal on top of the amp. With a little time the Quinn should sound even more similar.

Man, did i overplay or what???please excuse my excitement. but it was like crossing off "play a real dumble" from the bucket list. let me tell you ,the TKT is one great amp! the dumble had some more to it, but the TKT was fantastic! i think with some tube swapping and some break in time that amp will sound even better. but right about now, i would give my left nut for one! especially since the child rearing days are over for me.- trap, errr... pman

Mac Daddy, did you use the same settings on both amps?

Pman, how did the two amps feel when playing them? Did you get the sense that the original Dumble had a thicker lower midrange/bass?
Am I imagining the slight added compression? I'm listening through
headphones and trying to get a sense of what you were hearing.
I also hear less midrange with a top end clarity on the original.
I'm not trying to knock TKT 183. I like how it sounds. I'm just trying
to confirm and adjust for the sound of the recording device.
By the way, good job on your playing.
I would also ask Mac Daddy and Mr. Dumble the same questions.

I like both amps as well. Very good! I hear more tightness in the Dumble as well as a slightly higher shift in the mids. (as compared to the TKT) To me the Dumble is the perfect blend of lows to high mids with a perfect touch of highs on top for good measure. To my ears the mids in the TKT are voiced a tad low and there is too much of a gap between the mids and the highs thus giving one the impression that the TKT has more highs than the original Dumble as well as more mids. I really think the TKT would sound pretty much dead on if the mids were voiced slightly higher and the amp was tightened up a bit. To my ears the mids need to be voiced higher so they sit right under the highs making one hear more of a combination high mid - high, instead of the sperated mids and highs I hear in the TKT right now. I think there is plenty of bass in the TKT the way it is, but it is getting lost with mids sitting as low as they are. If the mids are raised slightly then the bass will stand out a little better on it's own thus giving ones ear the impression of more bass. The TKT is also looser sounding than the original Dumble.
Both amps have the right vibe and tone, (basically the TKT has all the ingredients) I just think the Dumble has a slightly better overall voicing mix than the TKT right now. I'm sure that could be easily fixed with a side by side tweaking by the builder.

The differences I heard is that the Dumble is slightly darker, has slightly more "strain" and has less presence. For those who say TwoRocks sound like "there is a blanket over the speakers", thats kind of how the Dumble sounds after playing the Quinn, but I LIKE that blanket!!! You can back the controls down on the Quinn and it gets very, very close, but the Dumble is always a bit darker, and the Quinn has a slightly larger mid hump. This could be totally in the preamp tubes, as when I put chinese glass in the Dumble when I owned it, it humped the mids and added gain compared to the GE 12Ax7s the Dumble came with. Both amps "feel" very similar, but the Quinn is slightly stiffer. Again, its brand new, and the tubes alone could be the answer. My Quinn will be here soon, and will have the GEs and correct Power amp tubes, so we will see what that does. If there is still a differnce, I may have to kidnap Shadman to get him here and fine tune them to be dead on. It will be interesting to compare my 183 to Brads as well, as the tubes will be the only real difference. No matter what the case may be, # 183 is simply the best sounding amp for overdriven tones I have ever heard, and the Quinn is right there with it. VERY VERY VERY GOOD!
it's difficult to characterize the feel of the two amps. but i can say that they were very close. i hate to sound cliched but the dumble had a little extra sweetness-nastiness in general and a ,oh hell, squisheyness on the initial attack of the note. Brad could tell you more about the settings, but i think they both had the bypass on. it's like angelina jolie or jennifer aniston, would you kick either out of bed? except maybe cause there's more room on the floor!
Brad, The Dumble is far louder in those clips! Not evem close. I call cheating. We had the amps sounding almost dead on, and made clips of it which you will not post. You should post those clips as well. Fair is fair!
Regarding your post Mr D
At the the beginning it is louder , When Paul starts soloing the Amp's volume is turned down to the same level as TKT

Hey Brad, Thats not what I am hearing. Even at 58 seconds in the video, the Dumble is far louder. Thus the difference in the tones. Its very easy to hear when you play the videos side by side, give it a try! IMO, the videos you and I did are a much better representation of the amps due to the dialing in we did, and the volumes. Even in those clips we did not try and adjust them very much. We just kind of messed with it real quick. I think they can be made closer still. I DID like the Dumble more! I feel the slight nuances could be easily made up for with minor fine tuning however. Hey, mine will sound different due to parts tolerences and the tubes, so we shall see with that one as well! I am hoping it will sound even BETTER than the Dumble!
