Another Donar amp found

Post by Bob-I »

A Peavey Classic 50. The seller thinks the OT is bad because the output is very low but everything else works. So I'll have a PT, reverb and reverb xformer, chassis, cabinet etc. The last one I transplanted into sounds great. I'll do a transplant and sell one of them. If the Classic 65 chassis fits I might just put that completed amp in this cab, after a cleanup. Hell the OT may even be good, he hasen't tested it.

$25 plus 40 for shipping. ebay is a great source for parts.

Where are the preamp tubes? :?

When I finish the "under $300" Dumble Lite project, I want you to do a followup project called "under $150." You are the master of the tone per dollar artform.

SS preamp. First thing I'll do is gut it.

How about "Under $50" with parts off the shelf.

The Classic VTX I bought for $30 is a Dumble now and I only bought a few little things, maybe $10 worth of stuff, 3 tube sockets and a few odds and ends. Of course I had all the resistors and caps, then later added relays for about another $30.

These SS preamp/tube power amp amps are really easy to convert and have most of the major components in them already.

There was a homebrew at Firebottle where the builder set a goal that he could only use what he already had or could scrounge for free. The bar is set pretty low. I usually do the opposite -- I'll start with a spare choke and build the amp around it. sh

Kieth, just keep surfing ebay for "as-is" "parts" "project" etc. You'll find them. Keep your bids low and expect to lose often. It just doesn't pay to buy a junk amp for $100.

Luthier, I just started building an amp around a chassis. $50 for a chassis and $300 for parts. At least I didn't start with an input jack.
