I have the Funk book, too. This circuit looks suspiciously close to the SLO overdrive channel less the effects loop. It's a totally different animal compared to an ODS. The 3rd stage with its 39k cathode resistor - while not providing much if any gain - introduces a radical clipping of the signal. No such stage exists in an ODS - HRM or non-HRM.
