Seems like I've read here of a method of creating a faceplate by printing it on photo paper and adhering it to garolite. Could someon expand on this process?
I'm curious what you do around the pot holes so the nuts don't tear the paper when they are tightened. Also, do you put something over the paper to protect it?
I tried the Kinkos route and the only Kinkos here that does signs said he would have to lay it out by hand from a photo (couldn't use computer drawing files) and could only print it on vinyl. I don't think he is too knowledgeable.
Thanks,
Rut

Re: faceplate options
I have Kinkos print it from a Corel 8 file onto adhesive vinyl. Make sure to have them laminate it. It really toughens the surface and makes it more abrasion/solvent resistant. They can do either a glossy or matte finish. The vinyl will spin if you don't use a dress washer but it is fine otherwise. Go to their docstore.kinkos.com site rather than the regular URL.
If the surface of the chassis is smooth enough, you don't have to bother with the garolite. I think it sticks to metal better anyway. There is also the issue that 1/8" aluminum with glue, garolite and the vinyl is a hair too thick for Alpha pots. One more tip, if you are putting it directly on the metal, get it oversized so you can wrap the edges around the chassis. Here is a pic from my "Hybrid build in progress" thread.

Re: faceplate options
So do you just order yours online from this site vs going into the store?

Yeah. The site I gave allows for you to select your local store. You just enter what you want and when you want it. You'll get the option of seeing a proof first which isn't a bad idea the first time. Most of the canned options won't apply so make sure to mention the adhesive vinyl and the lamination. sh
