Definitive schematics
I'm looking to build an ODS, perhaps with one of funkalicious groove's chassis, and have looked through all the stuff in the Dumble Files. Not sure which schematic and layout to use to get started. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.
Re: Definitive schematics
Hybrid A seems to be a good choice. I'm about to finish my first.
Look throught the postings for alternative values on some components.
When I finish mine, I'll post a schematic and layout that shows exactely what I've done. I'll also try to get some sound clips.

Re: Definitive schematics
I suppose I was pretty general there. Something low wattage, nice fat tone, played at small gigs, Deluxe reverb size and output would be fine. I usually play a 335, occasionaly a strat. Lots of volume is not a priority. I am very open to speakers also.
Re: Definitive schematics
The Hybrid A into 6V6s would probably be perfect for you. There's a speaker recommendation thread here somewhere. I think Bob I built a 6V6 amp - look for his posts for tweaks.
Re: Definitive schematics
On my schematic I even listed the type of component, I.E. electrolytic vs. MPP (metalized polyprop) caps. That amp sounds great too.MarkB wrote:The Hybrid A into 6V6s would probably be perfect for you. There's a speaker recommendation thread here somewhere. Re: Definitive schematics
I am making a 7591 based amp right now for a mid-power solution but the 6V6 sounds like a winner. You probably want an American sounding speaker. There are a couple Eminence speakers that have gotten good reviews here. I have both a Cannabis Rex and a Red, White and Blues that work well across the tonal range. The Tonespotter isn't bad but you need some bottom on this amplifier and a single mid-range speaker might not get you there. The amp is very precise in terms of components in and sound out so you want the speaker to not add a lot of personal opinions.
For your 335 I think the Hot Rubber Monkey amp is probably better. That was the first of these schematics I made and it sounds best with a 336 clone I built with this amp in mind. I used a set of WCR Crossroads which is their lowest impedance production PUP. It sounds good with a set of Rio Grande buckers too. I can get it to sound good with a Strat as well but the secret there is adding a Dumbleator on the clean channel. In my very humble opinion, the best sound I get from this amp is the clean channel with a Dumbleator turned up to a little hair. Consider that an obligatory second project or put an extra tube in the build you are considering. When I am done monkeying (no pun intended) with this amp, I'll post the schematic.

Bob:
I got some xicon MPP caps. Where do you suggest putting them..any critical places in the circuit where they add to the sound in a good way?

Looking, appreciate the input. More, please. I am a bit unfamiliar with Dumble nomenclature, but using the search feature.
Re: Definitive schematics
There's a thread on caps I started a few weeks ago. Read through it, lots of good information from some folks smarter than me in there.Tdale wrote:Bob:

My tests showed that any cap in the signal chain makes a difference. Coupling caps and TS caps. I haven't experimented with cathode bypass caps but some of the marshall type builders swear by poly caps here too.

Re: Definitive schematics
+1. That is also my experience. A cabinet with good bottom allows me to set the bass control somewhat lower for a more defined sound.Luthierwnc wrote:...but you need some bottom on this amplifier and a single mid-range speaker might not get you there.
Re: Definitive schematics
I would not recommend 6V6 output. I never cared for it in any D style amp that I experimented with. 6L6 is fatter and much more the tone IMO
