Advice on reverend conversion

Post by HiGain »

I have a reverend hellhound that I have already done a lot of mods on. It has some cool mods to the power amp (typical stuff), as well as DC on the heaters.

But I was never happy with the preamp, and my attempts to modify it did not work out so well either.

I want to convert it to a Dumble type circuit, and have two questions (for now  )

1. The chassis is 17" X 6 3/4" X 2 1/4". Is this big enough, or will I drive myself crazy.

2. What is the typical length of the pramp board for a non-HRM.

OK, I lied... I have a 3rd question: Aiming for a RF midrangey tone, should I try the HRM or NONHRM with this 1X12 combo amp that is a little loose and lacking in bass.

Thanks,
Jake

Yes, it can be done...but may not be worth the effort. The Hellhound iron just doesn't have enough oomph for the bass. Not really a bad sounding conversion though.
Here's a pic of the one I did. It was my first amp build so don't laugh.

Thanks for the feedback, Norm... Maybe I'll plan for a 6V6 ODS type build. Or, use the chassis for another project, like a deluxe clone, etc.

Interestingly, my Hellhound was my first amp victim as well. Your conversion looks a lot nicer than how the Hellhounds arrived from the factory!
