I like your setup, have a few sweet amps to cover the different sounds. Like you noted, I'd really like something small. First something for portable practice while I'm traveling. (Truck driver) Then something to compliment my JCM800...
I liked the raw toneful sounds of a Gibson GA5 or Goldtone for example. Maybe something like that with a power attenuator to keep the volume managable, and a 12" or 15" speaker cab. I like the 12" Scumbacks but I'm open to something different for the clean side of things. I also like some spring reverb too.
Anyway, opps for going astray of the topic there... I appreciate the chat and tips!

You may also need to adjust the bypass caps. I see in your layout you have 4.7uF, 4.7uF, 1uF and 1uF. Where this has always worked for me, you might try reducing some of the bass energy up front and adding some later. Try lowering CL2 and raising OD1.BobW wrote:Bob,
I posted two older layout iterations in the layout post in the files section, but will update and re-post. This is also a good time for me to finally draw a schematic on this amp, better late than never.fwiw, The only changes since those posts were the 150k FET load and dropping resistor between B+4 and B+5 change. I do have the big bassman iron and may have to adjust the tone stack....more on this later. thanks, BobW
Of course speaker play a big role in this bottom end too. What are you using?
Re: What's a "Dumble" ??
Thanks Bob. Although I like the clean channel as is, I'll try your cathode cap changes. Right now am using the small 2 12" bassman enclosure w/older Jensen C12k's. I didn't hear anything better with a pair of 10" JBLD110F's or a pair of the 10" Mojo BBxxxx. The Jensens actually had better clarity w/o the bottom end breakup as in the JBLs or MOJO's. The JBLs and MOJOs were in open back enclosures.
Have been awfully busy at work so the schematic is taking longer to complete and check against the layout. I did find the Mid pot wiper was connected to the ground side and not the slope as in other layouts. Also need to check the R/J switch connections, since the MID boost switch/series cap was purposely omitted due to front panel space.
