Anybody out there used any pt's and ot's other than Mercury in these?

I typically use the 290DX and 1750M from http://www.radiodaze.com/ in my builds. I haven't seen any conclusive information that the Mercury's sound better. If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find several threads on this topic. Cheers, Richard

also just remember theres no such thing as "this or that transformer sounds BETTER" with guitar tone theres only different, member A might love transformer X while member B might hate transformer X and love transformer Y.
The only thing you can really do is buy some quality trannys and hopefully they sound better to you, and then the stock trannys are good for backups.
Personally i really dont think that the mercury magnetics are worth the money for these amps simply because there are so many good choices out there for dumbles. But a hiwatt, for example, works best with their partridge design, MM might work better for that application just because of the fact they clone the old partridge trannys and it'll probably be cheaper than a NOS(if you can find one)

It's suppose to be an upgrade but costs about $40 more.
I wonder if it's worth the upcharge.

Re: Ceriatone 50 watt HRM
Anyone have an opinion on how the stock HRM/OTS Ceriatone OT xformer sounds in comparison to others?
Re: Ceriatone 50 watt HRM
The build quality MAY be spotty on the OT's. Mine sounds OK to my ears especially at volume, and my buddy complains that his is down on power. He has good ears so his opinion counts. I do think my amp sounds a little dull to me at times. I know it can be tweaked a bit (or alot).LPSGME wrote:Anyone have an opinion on how the stock HRM/OTS Ceriatone OT xformer sounds in comparison to others?
Is there better iron out there then what Ceriatone uses?
Without question. Do I know what it is? Not yet, but a careful reading of this forum provides many opinions!
In the end, all it takes is money and time.

True, there have been a number of posts where people have reported what seems like an unusually high number of failures. The build quality MAY be spotty on the OT's.
