Cable from amp to external loop?
What kind of cable you use from amp to D-lator. I've been using George L's from my amp to Rodenberg Flexloop3D. But is there maybe something better?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
I just use the same kind of jumper cables I use on my pedal board.
Then run some good 12 footers to the pedal board and back.

Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
I've read so many folks that hear a difference that I've tried every cable I own and borrowed a few to listen as well. To my old ears I can't hear a difference. Right now I'm using about 6' of old wires I've had for years.
Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
I think that I have to say that I hear the difference. At least my amp is much brighter without loop. But I have 47pF in master cab and 270pF snubbers in V2 (non-HRM ods-101 with .02... in CL2, sovtek 5881, JJ ecc83, ecc803, EVM 12L or G12-65). With loop and loop cables it's darker sounding but in a good way.
My ears are still quite young
Maybe it's just the capacitance that matters.

Yes, I can hear the difference very clearly without the loop, but I don't hear a big difference between cables.ukulele wrote:I think that I have to say that I hear the difference. My ears are very young for their age, I've been protecting myself against being bombarded by drummers and marshall stacks all my life, today I use in-ear monitors. Occasionally my battery dies and I pull the ear plugs out, it surprises me everytime how loud the drums are (drummer uses in ears too). I can hardly hear the guitar and bass over the drums. Gotta love letting the PA do the work.
Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
So maybe I will just use George L's.
Yes, in ear monitors are very good. I have used them also couple years but I still prefer to have monitor on floor if there's good soundman. And I also hear amp better and it just feels different to play when you hear your guitar sound straight from your speaker.
Thanks

Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
Hard to hear a difference between cables, but easy to hear a difference between capacitance levels.... Try 100pf cable versus 250pf cable. Big difference! I personally like the dark cables with a big bright cap. Then it is easy to hear cable differences.
Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
Each to his own. I like hearing what the amp will sound like from the mike. It allows me to make adjustments for what the audience hears as opposed to what is heard on stage, plus I can play at a far lower volume, allowing the sound man more control (read that as .. less bitchy).ukulele wrote:So maybe I will just use George L's.

Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
Bob, try just running different cables in the loop jacks without the box. It's pretty easy to hear the difference between them I think.Bob-I wrote:Yes, I can hear the difference very clearly without the loop, but I don't hear a big difference between cables.ukulele wrote:I think that I have to say that I hear the difference. Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
How big bright cap? I've been using about 47pF, should I go even bigger. My loop cables measure something like 180pF. First they were about 300pF.Hard to hear a difference between cables, but easy to hear a difference between capacitance levels.... Try 100pf cable versus 250pf cable. Big difference! Well the soundmen don't always like meEach to his own. I like hearing what the amp will sound like from the mike. I like to hear other instrument from my monitor. Keyboards and snare drum for example. Of course most of the gigs are in places (small) where you don't need monitors unless you sing.
Thanks for your answers!
Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
The difference here in NJ is only a very few venues have PAs and soundmen. We have our own system and a soundman who's at almost every gig, when he's not there he sends a sub in so I gotta get along.ukulele wrote:Well the soundmen don't always like me![]()

Actually he's really good, not only gets a good mix out front, but responds to our needs on the monitor mixes as well. I share a mix with the drummer in the ear pieces, the singer and bass player have their own wedges.
But we're off topic.
Yes, I can hear the difference of good and bad cables in the loop without the Dulator. Put it in the loop and cables make less difference. But that's my ears.
I'm working on getting 2 effects into the loop. Right now I have reverb and delay in one unit, but I want to run the TC Nova delay with the tap tempo in the loop. I can run the reverb in the Dulator, then the Nova AFTER the dulator but still in the loop. Works well but I think it's be better with both units in parallel in dulators. We'll see.
Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
I also use the flex 3d, and george l`s. I say, stay on that combination. I have tried everything else, this was the most balanced combination. :lol:ukulele wrote:What kind of cable you use from amp to D-lator. Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
After the drummer hits the crash the third time, I can't hear any difference in cables...

Re: Cable from amp to external loop?
Isn't 250pf on the high side for a typical guitar cable, unless it's fairly long?dogears wrote:Hard to hear a difference between cables, but easy to hear a difference between capacitance levels.... What about the flatness of frequency response with a relatively high capacitance cable links a d'lator; does a mid-range bump occur and grow as the cable capacitance increases, as I believe occurs when the cable is attached straight to a (high impedance) pickup?
