Ceriatone Bluesmaster 50w trannies

Post by rvf263 »

Hello all,
I'm rather new to building amps and just ordered a Ceriatone Bluesmaster 50w from Nik without the trannies.

Are there other replacement OT/PT/chokes available other than Mercury Magnetics?

Does Heyboer make replacements for a Ceriatone BM50w?

What OT/PT/choke are using with your Ceriatone BM50w?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Well these are MM Axioms but Gabkits.com sells the transformers for that amp. Not that bad a price.

Also you could use Magnetic Components Fender replacements such as Fender twin even though its rated for 100w amp it can be used for PT. Otherwise the Bassman replacement iron would work for PT/OT.

I got a Fender S/F Twin Verb PT/choke and a Tone master OT .
It is a 100w so its definitely gonna be different but,

my Ceriatone BM sounds silky smooth with a hint of marshmellow's floatin on a football field (couldn't resist) :D :D

I have a Brown Note D'lite. 50w 2 x 6L6

I replaced the OT with a Fender Prosonic OT that is rated for 50w and has 4, 8, 16 ohm secondaries.
Great OT.

I bought mine at Angela Instruments.
http://angela.com/fenderprosonicoutputtransformer.aspx

I also installed a choke.
The Hammond P-C194B which is a replacement choke for the Fender 022699.
http://www.tubesandmore.com/scripts/fox ... em=P-C194B

As for the power transformer I still use the stock one that came with my kit.
It is a Heyboer PT-650EX HTS-8816EX
Specs:
325-0-45-325 @ 300ma
6.3vac @ 6A
5v @ 3A

That is a export tranny with multi voltage primaries.
If you live in the states you don't really need that so that may save you .
Many here have used the Magnetic Components transformers and I haven't heard one bad review of them.
They tend to be cheaper than the alternatives available and if I were you I would probably go that route.
Just pick the transformer for the equivalent Fender amp tube layout that is the same as your OTS.

Thanks everyone,
When I emailed Nik about transformers he mentioned something about a 6-0 tap to power up the relays?

Do the replacement transformers mentioned here like the Magnetic Components or the Fender Prosonic have this extra tap?

-Thanks

This may be silly but how do I know which Fender amp layout is equivalent to the Overtone HRM Bluesmaster 50w Layout?

Right I forgot these are SS rectifier duh, so yes one should be able to use the filament tap into regulated power supply and I think that is why Nick said to make sure and get a PT with the 6v tap.

I really don't want to buy the mercury magnetics because IMO they're overpriced. I'm not trying to go cheap on transformers I just haven't heard anything that tells me MM are any better for the price.

That being said, I'd really like to go with Magnetic Components but I'm still totally confused about the 6v tap thing and which transformers I actually need. :?

I think I may go with this PT:
http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Power ... r-Power-EX

Question #1:
Why does the above export BF Bassman PT have the 3.15's and the 5v and the 120v BF Bassman have 6v @4A, and 5v @4A...?

Question #2: How close do the specs have to be with the Layout specs?
Better to be over a little? or under a little?

Thanks.
