It's probably just the pic but it looks like the V1b and V2a grid resistors both connect to the volume pot.

I noticed that as well - is it a parallel input to the 2nd stage and the reverb driver?
I love my rail tone amp!

Looks like there are crude marks on one end of the signal caps as if they are orienting the outer foil a certain way. Also looks like there are Dales on the cathodes of V1, for noise control I assume.
