Is that an Axe-FX patch or did you write that one yourself?

I ask because awhile ago at the ampshow I asked them to demo a Dumble tone and they couldn't even come close. They said they didn't have a Dumble and couldn't model it, they were just guessing.

This one sounds damn good. In a live mix I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference, recorded it's pretty damn nice too. Now get the chirp

Ah! It's good to know that someone remembers John Cipollina, even if it is in jest. By the by, that hideous thing didn't sound near as bad as it looks like it should have. :D
Then again, the Axe-FX in Scott's hands sounds far better than it has any right to.

I had forgotten about Cipollina's rig.
No wonder he got such a trebly tone out of his guitar and amps.

the amps at the bottom look like Standel's, and didn't sound too bad for a SS amp.

From John's memorial page:

To create his distinctive guitar sound, Cipollina developed this one-of-a-kind amplifier stack. All of his guitars, including the one here, were wired with two pickups, one for bass and one for treble. The bass pickup fed into the two Standel bass amps on the bottom of the stack. Each Standel was equipped with two 15-inch speakers. The treble pickups fed the two Fender amps-a Fender Twin Reverb with two 12-inch speakers and a Fender Dual Showman- that drove the six Wurlitzer horns.
"I like the rapid punch of solid-state for the bottom, and the rodent-gnawing distortion of the tubes on top," Cipollina said

Scott, do we agree that "rodent-gnawing" is what we're shooting for here?

Excellent and nearly GREAT playing AND TONES

Post by robertkoa »

First of all -lots of "fusion" or Jazz Rockers don't have tones this good or seriously cool dirty "Blue" notes in their playing but still have great bends and vibrato( like you do here ). And blues feel.

To tweak this into a GREAT track and performance, just a little more ambience( and getting the solo to sit in the track better)- possibly micing the studio monitor near the woofer and mixing it in, maybe a little delay and just do a few comps on your playing which is between "excellent" and "great" here and just a few more takes till the whole thing is "great" or comp a few together-you may need a 3rd party to do this if you don't believe me.

But this thing is only 1 step from being great in my opinion ........tonewise AND playing wise. Some real creative note choices and phrasing on there-I'm serious.

So far my favorite Axe Fx guys are you and Marco Sfogli.
