Marshall 2x12 Sound Post

I have a Marshall 2x12 1936 JCM900 Cab and when I've had it open in the past I've noticed that the sound post in the middle is......well its pretty small, flimsy and looks a bit pathetic really. In a 2x12 Cab would this really make much difference? I was thinking about adding some insulation to the end of it or replacing it altogether to push on the back a bit more.
