This is not actually about cabs or speakers, but it's from the wood shop so...

I was admiring my neighbor's shop - bunches of tools, tables, the whole works. He's got wood vises all over and I mentioned how handy they must be. Well, he rummaged around and handed me the guts of a really old. What a guy!

I really like the look and feel of old tools, at least of old designs. So I figured putting this thing together keeping true to its age was a good idea. Ours is a very old house, around 150 years, and I did some remodeling on it a couple of years ago so there's some really old lumber in my shop. I chose the oldest 2 x 6s I could find for the jaws. (They measure 2" by 6".) They were in pretty bad shape so there was some work to do on them.

It's not complete and usable yet but I thought I'd post some pics.

cool I've gotten away from using vises rubber mats are great for routing and sanding
Caznt beat the ol bench vise for holding boards on edge for hand planeing though
I like old tools also.Most of my shop equipment is from the late 40's and early 50's sure would like to upgrade them.
Speakin of wich I guess I should have that old saw fired up and making dust instead of being on here

I thought we were going to reminisce about old vices, like back in the 60s...........oh never mind.

Great looking vise, those things are handy as hell.

Tele - Yeah, well my wife considers my shop to be a vice sometimes. And I don't really remember the 60s very well; kind of a blur.. a Cool blur though.

Cbass - Rubber mats, huh? Hmm. Is there a certain kind you use? Might have to see about that. Sounds easy. I got this because . . . well, because my neighbor's a fine friend, but also because I got tired of using a Rube Goldberg looking combination of clamps to hold something still.

I finally got the sucker mounted tonight. It opens to about 8 inches, plenty enough for me. Guess I need to be making a little dust too.
