Needs some advice..
I'm in the market for a new 4x12 cab for my Richie built Express. I have found a '70s ampeg v4 w/ altec speakers for $300, which I plan on swapping in some '70s G12 GB w/55 cones or a mint condition Marshall 1960bhw ..
So I'm kind of torn which way to go, any comments or suggestions are welcomed.
My current rig is '87 silver jubilee 4x12 cab with 2 Marshall v30 and 2 G12H30 70 aniv in a x pattern. I feel like I'm missing something with this cab and my Express.
Thanks in advance

The V4 cab should suit the Express well. A real good match. There's a reason Ken liked these cabs with Express amps. I'd bite at that price.

the 1960bhw has bright speakers that may not work all that well with an express

Update,
I picked a ampeg v4 tonite cab, not just one but I got a pair. After getting them home, one cab had CTS speakers from 1970 and the other had newer marshall / celestion V30.. Both cabs have the 4pin xlr connector in the rear, Insulation stapled to the back panel.
I'm going to clean them and give them a try and report back.. I do plan on put in some early 70's G12 55h in an x pattern with either v30's or with G12H 70 anniversary .
Regards,

Here is another update,
Well the 70's Ampeg V4 is the clear winner for me. Comparing to my '87 jubilee bottom cab, the ampeg had a tighter bass, smother silker top end and a nice mid range. I have two g12h30 and two marshall v30 install at the moment. I'm planing on trying two rola g12m 55hz, this week.
I'am also plan on trying the scumback m75 or m75 pvc.. Anyone have any comments on the scumback's
dilemma, replace the grill cloth with a new one or just keep the stained uncleanable soiled original .. Thoughts
Thanks

I'd replace the grill. It's not too difficult if you have the patience to do it right. Here's a thread of my restored V4.

I sanded it down after tearing everything off and retolexed, regrilled, put new corners, logo, feet and took out the insulation. Great cabinets.

In a perfect world, I'd have a quad of pre Rola ceramics in there like Ken, but it's not, and I don't. I've been trying to fill this thing up with ASW Crossroads, but since money is tight, I'm thinking of going a cheaper route. Reeltarded likes the Celestion G12 75s and I've been thinking about trying them too. Much cheaper alternatives to some newer speakers. If I came into some good money, I'd go with either ASW or Scumbacks.

Ladies and gents,
IMHO... I have fould my magic combination of cab and speakers
And to one ones surprises..
Expess and liverpool: 1970 Ampeg V4 with 2 scumback m75 & 2 scumback j75 in an x pattern.
I also load my 2nd second V4 cab with 2 Marshall V30 and 2 G12H30 70aniv I and x pattern. This combination has less bass and bright top end, but still some very very good..
Thanks
