I recently got a Weber California 12 in a trade deal. It came with a screen dust cone. I would like to change it to an aluminium anyone ever change a dust cone before?

Either you could just put your aluminium dome on top of the screen dome -
Or you can cut an X in the middle of the screen dome, and then carefully extending the X (if needs be a * with as many segments as necessary) by tearing or cutting. On reaching the perimeter with some manual support see if the dome will work loose from the dopant. If not, then you have three options really:
1) leave the ring of the dome where its glued to the cone
2) By placing the knife parallell to the cone try cutting as much dustcap and dopant away without damaging the cone.
3) Try to chemically dissolve enough of the dopant for it to let go of the dome. I don't recall what Weber suggest using for that, now, but I think it was some kind of thinner - better go to the horse's mouth.

Seems like there was a tutorial at Orange County Recone.
