Clip of my Rocket build

Post by Blindog »

I finally got some spare time to record a clip of my Rocket that I built with RJ and many others from the group build. I'm using a Strat straight into the amp, with some verb added afterward. The Volume was set about 3/4 up, Treble almost off, Bass about 1/4 up, and the Cut a little past noon.

I'm using a 2X12 closed cab with Vintage 30's.

The solo guitar is the only one played with the Rocket.

Hope Y'all like it.

Blindog,

I did like it thanks for submitting it. I was wondering how mine would sound while I was listening to yours :) I guess I will have to do some recording.

Dude I think you found the sweet spot... I listened to that clip 10 times in a row and loved it. I want the rest of the album. Smoooooth -- harmonic richness and sweet cream distortion. It does remind a lot of the Fishy Pete amp (which is a good thing).

Congrats, very nice job on the amp, the recording, and the riffs. We may see a jump in Vintage 30 sales after that post.

Mark & RJ, thanks for the compliments. RJ, thanks again for all your help and passion for the Rocket project! With your help and many, many others that chimed in, this was really an awesome project.

My brother comes over to my little studio to work on things, and I asked him if he had anything I could throw a solo over. He had a couple tracks done, and I just picked that one. I'll have to let him know he needs to make an album :)

Just another note, I used the OT from a Vox AC30 reissue, while they were still made in England. I also used a 40uF cap for the first node instead of an 80uF. Other than that it's pretty much standard topology.

I will say if I'm gonna record anymore with her, I need an iso box :!:

Great tone on that Rocket! :D

I may have to build one of those. It's seems some amps love strats while others, not so much.
Obviously, your Rocket likes them singles real well. :D

Macshaft, glad the Hammond OT is working for you. I've got the Hammond choke in mine. I have a dealer a few minutes away, so I went with it . Thanks for the kind words.

Structo, dive in and build it! It's really a nice build, especially compared to a D style amp  You'll have her done in no time.

I'm using Dimarzio HS-2's in the neck and bridge, wired non-humbucking ala EJ, and a Dimarzio Blue Velvet in the middle position. I think I'm happy with this config. (for now, at least!) Thanks for comments!

That sounds awesome, Mark. I just got my Rocket on Friday, and got to spend about an hour and a half with her. Only used humbuckers so far, but she sounds goooood. :)

Very nice OD tone without harshness. Especially thru Vintage 30s! Very nice.

Brad737, hello fellow freezing Buckeye :) So you like her with the humbuckers , eh? I'm going to try my PRS Singlecut with the same settings next. I have feeling I'll have to raise the treble a bit.

Skyboltone, I was a bit concerned about those Vintage 30's. I'm a big fan Alnico Blues in Vox style amp. I think dialing the treble down helped smooth out any harshness. Plus those speakers in my old Ampeg 2x12 are well seasoned 8)

Thanks to both of you for the positive compliments.

Holy crap, I'm glad the Doc replied in this thread otherwise I wouldn't have found that clip.

That has got to be some of the best sounding playing that I've heard in a heck of a long time. Makes me really want a Rocket now.
