Express Build Progress

Post by Allynmey »

Hi all Just got my boards (from Dana) populated. Here's a pic of the Power/Bias and Preamp board. Hopefully I'll get my chassis this week and my Cabinets should be done by Friday.

Hi all...progress made! My cabs are finished. I will drill my faceplates and do some kind of woodburning design. Here are some pics!

Wow Allyn, those cabs look GREAT! I'm waiting on my chassis to arrive from Nik before I put mine together. Hopefully it'll come out half way as nice as those look, although my table saw and I are both mitre-challenged ;)

Jeph, two ways to do it and both are easy. One is called a "V-Fold" You cut 45 degree miters on 4 pieces of wood. You put tape on the outside of the joint and line the 4 pieces up in a line. You put glue in the joints and "foldup" the cabinet. Tape the final untaped "outside" joints. If your 45's are square, the cab will be square. The second choice is to cut the 4 sides, and use biscuits to put together. Either way is more than strong enough for this amp. I'm probably going to do a large run sometime in the near future.

I can get the gluing down ok with the 90deg clamps I have, but getting the mitres cut right at 45deg is an entirely different story. I did have them cut nicely, but then decided to do some inlay. After sanding the inlay my mitres no longer looked great, so it's back to the saw, etc... my cab has a few "interesting" modifications made since I didn't plan well enough.
rhinson, I'm in MA too, but Norm refused my calls for help ;)

I may be from MA but I can't bring myself to watch Norm's show due to the "Yankee" in the name

Hi all, a little update on our project. I have just test fitted my chassis with unfinished faceplate to my cab. I through a paper logo on it for perspective. Man... I better learn to woodburn quick!

I really can't wait to finish but, I really want this one to be perfect.

keithrick wrote:This is my first post on this forum. Your chassis looks great and so does the cab. My only issue is why copy the trainwreck logo? This is a clone right? Why not put your name on it?

If I built a clone of an amp that is fine. Just like Fender , Marshall and Mesa ect. copied Western Electric circuits, but I wouldn't think of putting someone's elses name on a amp I built! especially if they had nothing to do with it?
Keith, read the post. It is paper! and put there for perspective! If I did put one on my own clone...so what though! Keith if you built a 67 Corvette from the ground up would you put the corvette emblem on it? Or...would you say Henry Ford developed the first production car and Chevy doesn't deserve it?

It's all ridiculous!!!!! :D
