New build "Lina" plays well, but a couple questions

Just finishing up an Express build "Lina".

Couple questions:
I did the 1 ohm resistor bias method. Do people normally take those out after playing a few hours?

At first, the amp was playable, but bad low volume distortion and very quiet. I found the 8 and 16 ohm taps form the OT were touching the back fo the impedance selector (metal). After fixing this, the amp got all its volume but howled due to the OT wires needing swapping at the power tubes. How was I able to hear playing from the amp when the two output taps were shorted even though the OT wires were wrong a the tubes? Just curious.

Working on a Paduak cabinet for this build now:

Thanks to RJ and Rooster for offering parts!

Good work with the troubleshooting!

Leave the 1R bias sense resistors in place. They're not hurting anything.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

As for 'how was I able to hear with the OT shorted' it likely wasn't a dead short but some level of oxidation or flux between the contacts caused it to be a resistive contact. Therefore some of the signal was going the wrong way, but some wasn't. Due to it being two transformer taps, I think it's good you sorted it, as it may have done damage over time. I think you're fine now.
