Gain control between gain section 2 and 3 of Express?

Hi guys! Has anyone here implemented some sort of gain control that varies the signal that goes into the 3rd gain stage of an Express?

What does it sound like?

Does it function more like a post gain volume control or a gain control?

I have not implemented a gain as you described, but I did implement a split plate load resistor, which reduced gain rather than acting like a volume pot. So I would guess that the same would be true for a gain pot.
