My Zwreck-ish build just completed

Post by BarryW »

I just wanted to give thanks for the assistance I received from this forum on so many builds, but especially on this one. I used Heyboer 8093/9144 iron from RJ (thanks RJ), it sounds fantastic. It sounds so good on soft that I haven't even tried it on the higher voltage setting. WOW, what a match for a tele! I did split the grounds a bit differently to avoid noise - quiet as a mouse. I haven't done a cab for it yet but have some nice cherry and flamed maple that should be just right for this one. My first build post here I think, so be kind - I leave my PT leads long. More pix later, here's a quick look

Looks good and will be even better in a cab sitting on top of a speaker cab with guitar plugged in. Enjoy.

BarryW,

Congrats on your build.

You are among the few that power up with no issues, a good sign.

Just an opinion, is that the orange drop capacitors are actually radial leads, I like to bend the leads lower than the kink the manufacturer does.

A nice dab of silicone or RTV below the cap can silence any microphonics of the amp or cap from degrading the signal as it passes through.

Thanks - yup, I hear you on the leads, I do them different ways depending on mood that day. I use RTV as well sometimes, but I don't have any issues at all in this build. The stuff is such a mess - but it definitely helps with overall stability, I gotta agree with you. I will definitely be using that technique with my ODS-style builds.

Nice work Barry... there are several takes on the Z-Wreck out there but not so many images of them around. I'm not sure if you have a Rocket to compare it to but I'd be curious if they are pretty close.

I just started selling the Mercury Mag trannies lately and Patrick over there is sending me some of their Dynaco A-470 style iron that he thinks is fantastic for an AC-30 circuit... we are really getting a lot of choices these days but nobody has anything but good to say about the Heyboer A-470 tranny.

Nice work and thanks for sharing it with us!

I've used the Mercury A-470S equivalent in 4xEL84 circuits and it sounds very good.
