Mark, I have to ask, did you use the typical JCM800 MV, and do you think that this is what we are hearing here? Does you amp sound equally gritty when set to 'clean'? Thanks.

Stock JCM800 MV and I get nice cleans. I just used the JCM800 schematic but changed power section to PP EL84's and changed bias resistors to 470k/470k with 5k1 grids. Heyboer 18w set trannies.
The Friedman has more distortion/gain then my amp. I tried mine yesterday to compare. Mine is cleaner and gets good distortion but gain knob has to be almost full on. The Friedman has definitely more grind, might have to build one of those as well. Mine has presence too and I would say mine is brighter tone.
