Another Big Bottle Rocket Underway

Post by Bob S »

It's been pretty quiet on the TW front lately so I thought I'd post this.
Started life as an Express.
Will get KT66's (5k2 OT)
Cathode bias - 180-220 ohm/220uF.
New cab made by ampmike - stunning.
Should be firing it up this week.

Bob

Nice!
So a single bias resistor?
What was all the talk about the data sheet said the KT66 needed seperate resisitors? Something like 400 ohm each with seperate bypass caps too.
Anyone do this?

Thanks....
In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

Thanks guys - I re-read the links.
Think I'll try single/split catthodes on a switch.
Gotta find out for myself if it makes any diff.
More later.

Nice bob looks good, and thats a old wise-tale about seperate 500ohm resistors, i tried it, amp sounded like crap, as i recall i used 180 ohm or lower
befor amp started sounding good, but amp had low plate voltages, that amp was killer. mark

Awesome amp! Really hope you post a clip or two when she's done. Are those blue caps the old Mallory PVCs?

After that remark you made in that other thread?

You better start filing the name off that amp...

Express Heyboer PT - around 405v B+.
I intend to start with RJ's posted voltages.
Lotsa excellent r & d done already.
I'll adjust the string to get there and see where that gets me.
I built a KT66 Rocket Reverb with fixed bias already so I have something to compare it to.
