Chassis question
I think I read that Ken used Bud chasis on his wrecks. If so was that on all wrecks, Rocket included? Seems like I also read that they are kinda flimsey. I see that they are pretty inexpensive in their blank form. I am pretty good at working with metal. Any reason not to use one?

Re: Chassis question
Yes, because they are flimsey and will need a broom stick under the trannys and between the trannys to make up for the flimsey metalBig Jim wrote:......Seems like I also read that they are kinda flimsey.........Any reason not to use one?

Re: Chassis question
I was thinking about that after I posted Dana, those are some pretty good size pieces and would probably sag the thin metal. I just wasn't sure how thin they were. Thanks.... You get what you pay for. I guess most of us would be using them if they were strong enough. I'm itching to do a Rocket and put together a dual Wreck rig through a 4x12 stereo cab. But that would be another post all together.

Re: Chassis question
rj carries a standard chassis and a premium chassis as well... No sagging with the premium... rock solid.
I know others make chassis too, but I'm only commenting on what I've used.

+1 for RJ's chassis. Just built two Rockets. Nice layout, and excellent build.

The Bud AC425 chassis has not been available for years in the 17x8x2 format.
Years ago I asked for a quote from Hammond and it was very costly for a flimsy chassis.

Re: Chassis question
I have built an Express with one of rj's chassis as well. It is in fact a very high quality unit. I just wanted to try my hand at doing the cutouts myself. There is a sheet metal shop around the corner. I will stop in and see if I can get them to bend something up for me. I am not trying to circumvent any of our fine suppliers here on the forum, I just honestly dont have the coin to spare right now to dive into an entire build. I am trying to find a cheap way to get working on something......My inner tinkerer is calling to me.

For some projects I just use ebay chassis costing $19 and very well made punch your own project.
Other times I get some from Brian at Ddawg.

Re: Chassis question
Big Jim, you have the honor of creating the gold standard in traditional Express builds from my parts package. I'll be really interested to see and hear what you build. I have no heartburn over guys being innovative or creative and building it themselves... that is very much a Ken Fischer trait. This forum is a great place to test and develop ideas and I still learn more from the great minds here than any other training resource I use... build it and we will learn.

Re: Chassis question
Thanks rj, that is a true compliment coming from you. I recieved a lot of really good advice and help here with that build. It was certainly a group effort. You can rest assured that I will still be buying the bulk of the parts for any Wreck type build from you. My goal is to have a dual amp rig running into my stereo 4X12 cab. Express for hair blowing stuff, and some form of a Rocket reverb for the pretty stuff. I am looking at all the variants of the Rocket, including your Rockster. Tube availability in my opinion, would be a huge consideration. KT66 is limited to new production (for me), EL84 seems kind of pricey for NOS, and I'm not really up on the new EL84's. I wonder if 6V6 would be an option, as I could drop a pair of those in the flame thrower as well. Still mulling it around. P.S. Mikeys cabs look great!
