Express filter values?

Post by Flash »

Hey all,
This might already have been discussed but i wanted to get your opinion about the Express filter lay out.
I see that not all schematics are the same for this. For example version A has 20+20+20 40+160+160. Version 4 has 20+20+20 40+80+80. Then both Francesca and Kelly have 20+20+20 40+40+40.
From your experiece have you tried both lower or higher values and how would you say this effects the tone of the amp.

cheers

Where did you see this?

The Express values are (40uF+40uF), 40uF, 20uF, 20uF, 20uF.

The 160uF stuff was an early Liverpool from memory.
Yours Sincerely

As an example of what it may do to change those values, take a look at the Marshall guys going for the EVH "brown sound". One of the final changes is to drop the 50/50uf cans to 32/32uf or even 16/16uf. I think the double 16s are paralleled for 32uf though. The is too "loosen" the amp up, or take some of the stiffness out.

Check out some schematics and you'll probably see some correlation.

Probably the package from the BlueGuitar.org stuff. They are also available here in the Trainwreck Files section.
