SuperWreck ..would it work?

Post by martins3325 »

Hi guys..im pretty much a non-builder though im trying to build an express..when I get the time. Anyway I was thinking..what would be MY idea of the Ultimate Guitar Amplifier? I answered myself --lol--one that has gorgeous pristine cleans and screaming expressive harmonic gain sounds. So that led me to wonder could you build the best at each of those into one chassis? More specifically a SuperWreck!..A Liverpool --for the gain--, and one channel of a Super Reverb --arguably one of the nicest clean sounds-- with two completely seperate power sections. I figure it would be a pretty large chassis..but the wreck side isnt that big, and using just one channel from the SR should help condense the SR side. Would be big im sure but I wouldnt think as big as a Maven Peal Ganesha. Would be the Ultimate to have both of those in one package. People drool all over Mad Professor amp but if it worked..the "SuperWreck" would be king in my book. Question is would it work?, or would the two circuits --though independent-- somehow interfere with each other in anyway just by proximity?

Speaking from my limited experience, attempting to crossbreed two different amplifiers usually leads to disappointment. There are large differences in those amps, so such a project would be riddled with compromise. The end result would be nothing like what you hoped for. I'm not saying you shouldn't try an idea, because it may turn out to be a cool amp, but I can almost guarantee it won't sound like a Super or a 'Wreck. My $.02

sounds like you want two completely different amps in one chassis... why not two seperate amps with an a/b/y box? you have to consider the diferences in the speakers theese amps use too. the super probly wouldnt have that same magic through the closed back greenback loaded cab that the twreck likes. and the twreck would probly sound prety terrible through the open back jenson's that typical fenders like... maybe a dumble pre in a super reverb would work better?

Your kinda missing my idea..no cross breeding at all..two COMPLETELY seperate amps on one chassis..but the two best at what they do. No amp has IMO ever come close to a TW for dirt and a SR clean in one chassis. If youve ever lugged a SR reverb around you'd know why I suggest that they are heavy and quite cumbersome. Then youd have to move your wreck and a cab as well.

I heard you the 1st time! lol..joking..think you hit submit 2 times too many..mind deleting the reposts? But again..why have to lug two seperate amps if you can have both in one chassis. The cab would have a custom baffle is all..but thats not a big deal: 2x12s and 2x10s in cab wired and in stereo. Electric field interference was more what I was wondering if would be a problem.

This subject come up every so often on amp boards. I file it under "If it was a good idea in practice, then everyone would be doing it already". If you have two amps in one cabinet, then you can't just bring one out with you - you're stuck carrying both. And a Super Reverb/Wreck would have to come with a roadie to carry it.

I have about four years reading amp forums, and I don't think I've seen anyone actually build one yet. You could be the first and report back. :D

I understand now, but it seems like it's still a major undertaking that could have some less than stellar results.

Voodoo amps made an amp like this... and I think they still offer it. I believe is called the "Tony two tones". They built on one side a Marshall plexi and on the other a Fender. Each side has its own PT and OT (as I recall), they run independently from one another.......That thing must weigh a ton though......
