18 watt trainwreck

Post by ampbldr2 »

I was wondering is there any popularity in the 18 watt trainwreck (TREX)? I do not see any info about the 18trex.

Want to see if anyone has built one and can comment on the sound and any pics of one.

A few have built it. You can go to these links and find out more. also some clips here and there. I believe Geeks friend also uses the one he built in some clips of songs.

The Trex is a marshall 18 channel. And a Wreck type channel, and they are kind of melded together to make them work more as they should.

Few folks have also built half power Liverpools and Express' as well. I've done a bunch of both with good success.

ampbldr2,

Yes that would be a good project.

I built my son a TW 18w Rocket using dartanion's iron and it sounds great and my son loves it that's what counts. :)

Yeah, Geek's friend Lance has the Trex he built and is using it on the Mad Donnas stuff. Very cool sounding amp. It's a bit different flavor than the Express/Liverpool, yet very cool.

I think when I re-order the 15 watt Rocket transformers that I may have some 15 watt Liverpool/Express iron done up as well. I sold out of the little Rocket iron fairly quickly. If there is demand for it, I'll get em done.

I've been looking over Mhuss schematic and layout for sometime now. I think this will be my next few weekend project. I already have my 18w TMB that I can take out the board and put in a TREX board.

Was there voltage chart made for this specific build?
Mark you have any pics you could post of your sons amp?

mine started oscilating after it was on for an hour or so. are you using the stock 220k grid leaks on the power tubes? I have seriouse crossover and blocking distortion issues i think. Other than that ( lol ) i love it.

I would love to see that! I really like the 5 to 15 watt range. Dying for a pentode push pull 10 watt.

Mark The pics I seen of your sons amp does not have the 18W channel. Also Darnation had supplied you 15 watt PT/OT im a bit confused on what you have built.

I have my turret template ready. I just need to be sure on the layout and then i can order some parts. WooHoo!
