Thank you for posting a sound clip!

I'd really like to hear the amp overdriven to get an idea of the voicing. I've personally recorded several KF trainwrecks over the years. I can't really comment on how your JM amp sounds in relation to the KF builds with the current settings.

I noticed you turning the volume knobs, can I make a suggestion? Set the eq flat at 12 o'clock and push the volume to breakup then use your guitar's volume to control the amount of clean and distortion. It'll help bring out the harmonics and sustain in the notes.

Cheers!

sorry blinkie I just assumed it was Mrscratch finally posting in his own thread and not jacking another lol

With that said I guess I don't need to be as polite in my response. I understand it's a Video recorder, but the amp sounds more like a matchless or Dr. Z with the volume pot just cracked open, then a Trainwreck.

Thanks for posting Blinkie.

The core to controlling and getting the most out of a Trainwreck beast is to set the volume at 12 to 1 O'clock. With your guit's volume knob full up, yes, it's going to roar like a lion and be loud as all get out.

However, start off with your guit's volume at zero and tweak it up. Will come on fast, but you'll be getting this wonderfully charming clean. Yes, it's going to be louder than if you just keep the TW vol down low, but that's how the TW was designed to run.

Conversely, with a two-pickup two-vol guitar, you can set one vol down low for clean, and the other a bit higher for gain. Just toggle between the two and ipso-facto a two channel amp.

I don't understand playing the Express in that manner?

Sure it will clean up but I want to hear the overdriven tone.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Wanking at low volumes like that doesn't really reveal the tonality of the amp. Dang, a fender champ sounds that good. :P

Crank the mutha. Neighbors won't mind; and it's better to ask forgiveness than permission

that is all the gain you get for $5K :D

I'm starting to understand why he gets so angry as well as why Trainwreck didn't post any sound clips on the website.

I didn't sound good to me at all.... It would have been just as loud playing acoustically.

built in mic=we dont know what the amp really sounds like and the tubes, the speakers, the pickups etc etc etc. I mentioned on another forum that he should take the time and do this properly so we can really EVALUATE this amp, but there is no way from how these clips are recorded.

Other builders/players use the same resources to post clips that sound far better. I can't comment on the true tone of the amp, but I can say he doesn't know how to get the most out of the amp. I really expected more, so where is the WOAH! factor? Based on first impressions, I'm not impressed. He should have bought a Soldano or a clone from a forum member.

Personally I don't like the sound of it and I don't think IMHO that it is even in the neighborhood of a KF Trainwreck. Compare Glen's first clips on a camcorder (4) to this one. Not even close. All KF Trainwrecks may sound different but they all have the same character. This one lacks it. Maybe it tubes, guitar, cables, pickups, speakers, cabinet, etc. If yo uhave never played a real one how can you compare it ot one???????
