"I personally do not like the term 'retro' when applied to guitar amps."
-Ken Fischer

Sounds good, though. But, it reminds me more of Roger Mayer's Axis Fuzz pedaL than an Express. If it's solid state, I'd like to see it in 1 rack space, or perhaps the size of an iPod.

IMHO, doesn't have the clarity/punch of the clean Express (vol knob down). Closer on the gain/compressed end of it.

In my personal view there is no need for any speculation, if it "could" be done. As soon as these are available, everyone can decide according to his personal taste, if these amps do what he is looking for in a wreck or not. I personally doubt, that this decision can be made based on clips.

Joe Ganzler e. g. likes the "Marshall" sounds of these SS amps a lot:

Wreck, Marshall, or neither, whatever, I've always wanted a solid state amp that sounded as good as it was reliable, and if this is the ticket for under 1k whoo hoo.

I CAN here the solid state nature from the clips, doesn't seem as punchy or clear as tubes, but I also here the "tube" like musical qualities as well and they are promising.

The clips sound real good. I am however somewhat concerned about my ability to clone a Solid State Amp!

In my experience I have Not found SS amps to be any more reliable than tube amps. Has more to do with build quality. Actually, I find transistor circuits more prone to failure.
A fet can be made to behave sort of like a tube . See the Fetzler circuit.

Kind of funny I started off building SS amps and now build tube amps

Many current high volume amp builders have said when the good tube supply drys up, they will start making SS amps.

Isn't it funny how comments like "I can hear it's ss" came only AFTER it was made known the amp is ss?[IMG:42:33]http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c149/ ... uicide.gif[/img]

hand on my heart I can't hear the 'solid stateness' myself just sounds good, I'll judge it when I get one in my hands and if it 'feels' right as well as sounding right.

then I think we're onto a winner, I believe this technology will be much closer to tubes than digital modelling for sure.

Pritchard Amps was using a Watts control on the bias circuit to control amps volume, thus allowing preamp distortion.

My friend and I have started using that principal in several amps with good results. A 25kL pot with 33k/2w-3w resistor across the pot.

Not sure if Pritchard Amps continue with that functionality or not.
