Once the 100R are changed out to 100k he can pop the tubes in and recheck all the voltages again.

Yeehaw! Swapped out them 100s for 100Ks and we have an amp!!

Good clean tones so far. Has some floor hiss, im going to tidy up my wiring and see if I can't make it go away.

So, Ive learned that you really have to run a tube recto in this thing. The SS jobbie really puts the cathodes close to the danger zone. The issues really started to go away once i installed that Rec. hmm.

Now im going to go reinstall that PPIMV and see what happens.

Big shout out to all the awesome folks here! I learned a ton from this experience.

Better to have funny voltages on your rocket than funny bumps on your rocket

lol!!! swapped in those vintage Amperex 12AX7s i got in V1 through V3 - wow. Those tubes really make a difference! And here I was thinking vintage tubes mojo was just stupid

Hey Hey.... you guys give me credibility when I declare you all to be the finest tube amp 24/7 tech support network on the planet!

Thanks to all of you for sharing this gremlin hunt... we are all a bit wiser and have a few more diagnostic data points in the event anyone ever puts the wrong value resistor in again... has that ever happened before??

How did they sound better? Quieter (less noise)? Clearer? Brighter? What would be interesting is to trace them out and see how they compare to vintage specs.

Less noisy to my ear. to not sound passe or cliche, it really feels like someone pulled the blanket off the top of the amp. I swapped it around in a few of my amps, and could actually hear an appreciable noise difference and clarity wherever I stuck it. I also scored several Mullard IEC 12AT7s - and i find that i actually like my express amp with one in V1 so much more than a 12AX7

RJ, thank you for your patience and help during this ordeal. I learned several new perspectives on troubleshooting that will serve me well - also I definitely feel more confident when I dive into a tube amp and can now honestly say I feel less apprehensive about working on one.

well, getting zapped will still humble you. lol.
