Re: Commercial ventures
im suprised this thread is still going....... the problem is that no matter what
an amp is an amp and thats all it is...... they might as well be sewing machines
you love em..... I love em....but there really hasn't been much by the way of
something new since the transistor began to enter the market place.....
ya got to ask......"why"..... elevate one designers approach.....
is it a desperate search for a hero...... or a celebration of an entrepreneur
who had the right idea at the right time......

Isn't coppying a form of respect and acknloegment , I would be more than happy to send % to Ken's family for every build that I copy , if it wasn't for his design in the first place I couldn't try and replicate a wreck.
But I wonder if Marshall is doing the same for Fender etc
Just my opinion.
I suppose the bigest compliment we could pay is send % or a dollar amont to Kens family and lable our amps Inspired by Ken TW .
Hell I'll do it now if some one gives me the details that I can confirm.
I don't mind as long as Kens family is getting looked after, for his efforts.

Wait a minute while I slip on my Chief Justice's robes ... aaahh ... that's better.
There are two rules that apply in this case: the ethical rules, governed by the extent to which we are willing to interfere with someone's livelihood by using his or her ideas without permission; and the legal rules, governed by United States Patent Law.
With respect to the former (the ethical rules), this Court has always held that is is unethical for a builder to appropriate the unique ideas of another active builder for competitive purposes. Clearly, Mr. Fischer is no longer actively engaged in the production of amplifiers, so these rules do not apply.
With respect to the latter (the legal rules), at no time did Mr. Fischer apply for a patent on his unique tonestack, nor on his unique coupling of the Tone Recovery Stage to the third preamp stage. Had he done so in 1983 or 1984 when these designs first came to market, the patent would have, as of this date, already expired.
Although trademarks and copyrights do survive their original grantees, and hence the name "Trainwreck Circuits" and its variants remain protected, this Court finds no ethical or legal impediment to the production and sale of amplifiers employing crciuits originally designed by Mr. Ken Fischer.
It is so ordered.
...and now back to my usual role as as solder-sniffing chassis jockey.

Chime Boss, the Rocket is a rip off of an AC-30. Hard to cry foul of a crime you yourself have committed!
As far as making money from all of this, I'm actual down cash building stuff to provide guidance for the group.
Chime Boss have a good read of your past posts, very little content there!
Perhaps it is time you hung up your cue here.
BTW, No pananoia here, don't care who you think you are. I've just had enough of a guy with a big mouth and not much else to back it up, again have a look at your own words, it's all there.
If your ever stateside I'll buy you a pint or two.
I aint such a bad guy.
This place has a great heritage but needs a disenting voice regarding ethics every once in awhile to keep things interesting.
Its definately a love fest back patting wink wink thing and thats okay.
No doubt a number of people here will become great amp builders in their own right. More power to you all.
Ive seen some incredible layouts here and stunning woodwork as well.
IMHO the soundclips have been a weak point but I'm sure that will improve over time.
BTW For those keeping score my initials are not GS and I've never been banned from any forum.

Dear Pongo316
Not really.
I agree with Chime Boss in so far as it is annoying to see good ideas pouched. Though I stand by my statement if you've ripped off someone elses circuit don't cry foul. So here I guess I disagree with Chime Boss.
This site is about building amps, as a hobby, learning electronics and developing ideas though experimentation. Should you develop a product along the way, all well and good.
What I want know is, will Chime Boss start posting up layouts, recommending circuit changes and mods he himself has found to work?
I'll go even further, I would be happy if he discussed one of his builds here and asked for advice.
Then I will be most happy to buy Chime Boss a beer if he should come to Australia.

Hey, Pongo316, nice "EXTREME" reference...Reminded me of just how great a player Nuno Bettencourt was/is and how good a lyricist/singer Gary Cherone was pre his Van Halen mistake!

Chimegold, what are you wearing to the "Walk on Water" fest this year?
Not that pathetically dismal halo made from "coat-hang wire" again!
3 years and still flaming.
...enchanting, sir.
