I am pretty certain that, back in the day, tubular caps with a printed line at one end absolutely indicated the outer foil. I guess today, as far as the manufacturers are concerned, as long as it looks vintage, that's good enough. Or perhaps they don't know enough about what they're doing to get it right.

Yeah, I guess. Just surprising since I think it's only him doing it. Unfortunate, because I was thinking about buying some more, but now I don't know if I want to. A lot to pay for a mislabeled cap. :?

There I go again starting a shitstorm, sorry guys

Here's some pics to verify if I'm a doing it right. I started with the .001's last night that I bought on closeout and I think they are pretty old. So today I remembered I had a newer .1 that I pulled out of one of my Morgans(cheep bastitch put 150's in my new dual40 however and my amp kicks it's ass BTW)

hope this clears up some things, anyone else test any Jupes?

Just looked at their site and the Red and Beeswax have the line after the logo.

In the time of editing this I got a response to an e-mail.

Hi Randal,

All of the round caps have a line denoting the outer foil end, on the flat caps the label side is the outer foil end.

Best Regards,

Please describe how you're testing, there. I have a scope and signal gen!

Down & Dirty...
I clip a scope probe tip to one side of the cap & the ground ref croc clip to the other side.
Hold the cap to a 120vac supply cord (bench light)
Check the voltage of induced voltage waveform.
Reverse the cap & test again.
The lower reading has the outer foil connected to the ground croc clip.
Some manufacturers caps have a small difference, some large.
I'll test a bunch of mallorys this weekend.
I think they vary with regard to the line.
Not certain on that though.

Ok, I started my second board tonight and wanted to know if you could take a look and make sure it looks right before I move forward. I'm expecially concerned about the trim pot because it was different than the photo and my lugs are arranged in the opposite direction (turretboards.com). Also concerned about the 25W resistor. The diagram looked like it has a little jumper going from that lug to the last 9.1k res lug.

Thanks!

Nice! Really clean. Can't wait to see the finished product! :)

Looks fine to me. Don't think you'll have any issues with your layout. Just measure the resistance of the trim and you can figure its direction for higher or lower.

I thought that was the standard trim I've used, but looking again, do I see extra lugs on it? The wiper goes to ground with one of the side lugs to ground as well. The other lug to the 47K.

Thanks! You and me both. I have the boards done so with the time I have my guess is that I'll have it finished next weekend. I'm going to have some questions when I get to the impedence selector.

Thats what I believe I did. It's hard to see, but my pot has 2 lugs and the bottom of the pot I believe is the ground. The 47K is connected to one of the lugs that is soldered to a turret. The other lug is connected to the 10uf caps along with what I believe is the ground. Not the same lug as the others.

Okay. The one I used on my Bassman looks exactly the same, but without the extras on the bottom. Weird, never seen em like that before, just tapped. :?
