Re: Xits X10 = liverpool half power?
When i tried this circuit out, i had issue with the tonestack, namely the treble return to the third gain stage.
As is stated by Greg V, the pot increases gain with treble.
My findings were it was extreme at either end, harsh and thin maxed, dull at the other end. The wiring is a little odd. The only thing that helped was using a coupler between the treb pot and 3rd gain stage. Helped heaps.
So, makes me wonder about the pot values, perhaps 1M is too much, maybe its using 250K pots to wash off some gain?
Interesting the revisions hes made along the way, and the use of such fine components. He really is an artist.

Yeah, that's the AC30 top boost tonestack for you.
As far as a treble/bass tonestack goes, I really like the AB763 blackface fender stack with .022uFs instead of the .1 and .047 bass and mid caps. You can play with the value of the treble cap and slope resistor too, although I tend to like the stock values of 250pF and 100k.
It's got a Vox flavor but fuller sounding and less extreme.

Yeah biut the thing is the top boost stack returns to the PI. Where this one is returning to a gain stage. Makes it really funky in operation.
I like the blackface stack too.

So you attempted the build already?

Re: Xits X10 = liverpool half power?
I modded a rocket to this circuit. The rocket was already modded to more ac30 spec, higher B+, and a few things. Sounded great but i wanted to try this schemo.
My feeling is the pot values may be different, would love for someone to try it out and confirm my findings as correct or not.
The tonestack gets full signal thru the 50pf cap to the treble pot. Then the reduced signal thru the slope resistor to the rest of the stack.
So you get this sway from full signal bright gain, and only 50pf freq, to a muddy lower output at the other end.
When this stack gos to a PI, its thru a cap. Here its going directly to the grid. I think the lack of a coupler makes things pretty funky, and while not bad as the demo sounds incredible, leads me to think that maybe hes used a 250K treble pot to minimise the funkiness. Would also be sending more signal to ground there, as its very gainy at spec.
I have a couple other builds on now, and just built a really great AC15/Zwreck inspired thing that im getting all the same tones as the Xits from, so kinda shelved the Xits. But i keep coming back to three gain stage amps, they just have a presence about them, love my Komet build!

Awe come on Don you don't have that many builds you can't take on this one too!
We should talk Dave (colossal) into building he started all this crap!

I built a combo cab for it today but am still trying to figure out which parts to use....also if there is a good available tranny also that will fit the build.M Fowler wrote:Awe come on Don you don't have that many builds you can't take on this one too!![]()

Taylor you could use magnetic components 18w Marshall set from Triodestores, very Reasonable.
TDS has a good set.

I want one

Yeah a person can build a lot of nice amps with the saving you get from MC iron.
Ange I am stuffing boards and arranging components Dumbles are parts hogs.
