Re: EXACT trainwreck clone
I think I am right in saying the vector board has different hole / spacing dimensions and those are not the original flea clips.
The correct vector board is possible to get hold of as some people have managed it but it took more work than an order from Allied. The same goes for the clips.

RJ and I have some original Vectorboard - with the correct hole size and spacing. It does have its issues, tho'. It's brittle stuff. RJ has just gone through the pain of having "replica" boards made with modern material and old-style hole dimensions.xk49w wrote:It looks like Allied Electronics has flea clips and vector board. Check page 1893 of the virtual catalog. Also, they show stock on Rubycon caps - don't know about required values/voltages though.Ron Worley wrote:Your biggest challenge is going to be sourcing the right parts. Some, like the boards...
Re: EXACT trainwreck clone
rubycon also doesn't sell axial caps anymore, that i know of anyway.
Re: EXACT trainwreck clone
There are a couple Liverpools (documented here) which do not have the original vector board. KF was able to work around it....

You guys crack me up. A drive-by-poster comes by and asks about information he can find with a search, and it turns into a 2 pager.

Re: EXACT trainwreck clone
And FYI, the flea clips that Allied and others have are Keystone .06" size..... the correct and impossible to find version is .093 (3/32").....
And yes, it is kinda funny... but ultimately many here tried for as close as they could to the original, so I guess a fella can dream....

It hadn't occurred to me that the dia. and spacing of hole and shape of flea clip were significant. Perhaps only if one wants to make an exact clone.fishy wrote:I think I am right in saying the vector board has different hole / spacing dimensions and those are not the original flea clips.
Since even an exact copy will not be guaranteed to sound authentic, would the OP consider a more conventional, and readily available construction technique?RJ Guitars wrote:An exact copy is an impossible quest.

But wait, we can do better!Bob-I wrote:You guys crack me up. A drive-by-poster comes by and asks about information he can find with a search, and it turns into a 2 pager.![]()
Well, at least if not better, then more.

We can throw in a set of ginsu knifes or a pocket fisherman.Zippy wrote:But wait, we can do better!
Great things happen in a vacuum
Re: EXACT trainwreck clone
Well, anybody can do that. Now if you can throw in ginsu knifes that are correctly dated and period correct, then we have something to talk about! We can throw in a set of ginsu knifes or a pocket fisherman.

There I fixed it.bnwitt wrote:We can throw a set of ginsu knifes at a fisherman.Zippy wrote:But wait, we can do better!
Seriously, the amount of research and information on Trainwreck's here is amazing. Personally I don't care if it's flea clips or PTP, as long as it makes the noise I like.
