Getting better everyday as it breaks in. Don't know if it would sound as good in an Express with el34's by the way I usually test with a nocaster , so if it was shrill or fizzy I would know it. I think the higher wattage gives a more subdued high end and better low end response.
Alnico or ceramic?

What combination where you using on the most recent youtube offering where you were playing the Gretsch?

Thanks for your patience on this Chaps, much appreciated.

Rob
I was playing the same '68 slant that was used on most of my clips and on most of my CD. It has '71 era G12M 25s in it w/75hz cones. On the "New Mexico" video I ran the Express amp (with EL34Ms and Sylvania 12AX7s) though a Hotplate backed down to either -12db or -16, but the amp was barely getting into overdrive. The amp was also set about the same as my other clips (knobs on 1/2 w/full bright switch setting) albiet with the guitar backed way down. That said, typically Gretsch guitars get really muddy turned down at the guitar but I modded mine to get around that issue.

I would have to say that after playing through my express and liverpool I would not recommend the Celestion alnico blues as a good speaker choice. I would like to try the Golds but not going to fork over the cash.

I am currently using the Celestion 30s in a 212 open back cab but they are not sounding all that fantastic either.

Maybe I will tear my 412 apart and run different pairs to see how that goes. It will take a good beefy speaker to handle the power and tones I think these two amps are capable of.

I will have to go back and review Glen's post as well as others, I think the TW amps are better suited to closed back cabs right?

I forgot to ask if I should stay away from using the Speaker Warehouse stock when shopping for Celestions and why are they cheaper?

Also just to set the record straight my Dr Z Stangray sounds fantastic through the 212 blues open back cab but that is a whole different character of an amp then the TWs. I do not play a lot of country music either mostly classic rock so it is what your ears like.

Well I am using a Gold in a 1x12 Dumble clone and thought I would give it a whirl in my Wreck. It was suprisingly nice....

The Blue is more shrill than the Gold I think. I was surprised that i had no ice pickyness at all with the Gold, a beautiful mid-range and nice bass, alot of bass actually.

People tend to throw Alnico's in the same pigeon hole but the Blue and Gold are quite different. The only resemblance is that they are expressive speakers. Blue more so but it is too bright on it's own.

I pair the Blue with a G12H30 and get great sounds in 18W, DC30 etc.

The Gold with the Dumble is the best I have found and I have tried them all .... Literally.

Just thought it may help because it took me ages to find the Gold. I kept getting put off as people said it was too bright. It certainly isn't. It has a nice balanced tone and nice warm sweet highs.
